The massive surf from the New Years swell continued with huge waves at the La Jolla Cove. On Day 4, December 30th, in the afternoon as the tide dropped surfers flocked to La Jolla Cove. Most of the sets were 12-15 foot faces but there were bomb sets pushing 18-20 foot plus faces. The La Jolla Cove is a novelty big wave spot in San Diego. It takes a very large swell and the right direction and winds for it to break. It is also a very long 1/2 mile paddle from the La Jolla Shores. Unlike other big wave spots on the West Coast such as Mavericks or Todos Santos that break in the same area, the La Jolla Cove can be very shifty. It is an extremely wide take off zone to cover and it is guaranteed surfers will get caught inside on the bomb sets. On this day, notable La Jolla big wave chargers such as Skip McCullough, Jon Roseman, and Ozstar DeJourday were catching some of the biggest sets. As well as Surfing Vloggers Ben Gravy and Zeke who were right in the mix getting some huge waves.
