Mallet toe deformity can cause pain and corn development at the dorsal distal interphalangeal joint (DIPJ) or at the apex of the affected toe. When the deformity is fixed (rigid), surgical correction is likely warranted. There are many methods for correcting this problem including fusion or arthroplasty of the DIPJ. In this video, I go through an open osteotomy technique.
