Kennedy of Kennedy Rifle fame is in my paternal line. Scots Irish. They came here before the revolutionary war and were gunsmiths. My line has several gunsmiths in it. Some moved to North Alabama after 1812. They got land for guns. Stutts, Davidson, and many more moved directly from NC to North Alabama. I’m Scots Irish, Irish and German, with a little Welsh, Swede and Norway thrown in. I’m not sure if Viking or actually Swede and Norse people in my line. I have not traced my line to specific places in Europe. Stutts was anglicized in the 1700s. It’s was originally Stutz. Any Stutts in the country is related to me somehow. 😂

Glad you're carrying on, Dr Vann. I enjoy intelligent things, including sharing ideas. I remember from history that pagan appears to have come come from the Latin "Pagus", meaning a rural area, suggesting the Paynes, Paganals. etc. were farmers rather than wicked non-Christians.
@BarryVann

That’s true, but just as other words have taken on other meanings, so has pagan. I did not mention the origin of pagan. I implied it. Paganism, like most religions, originated as nature-based belief systems. If I just gave definitions, no one would watch.

Thank you dr Barry for your wonderful cultural channel. There are also great British documentary channel ( fact feast ) about poor people in victorian era , it’s also mentioned slums in USA such as skid row or known as skid road . Before yesterday amazing video about Brooklyn bridge at New York City which considered eighth of wonder world. As always i looked up for origin and meanings of surnames you mentioned briefly here it’s Pyne is English: variant of pine . This name has been established in Ireland since 16 th century. Wauchope is Scottish: habitational name from either of two places in Scotland: wauchopedale in dumfriesshire hire or wachope in hokier k ( Roxbury shire ) . The place name is from old English walahop ( valley or Welshmen ) . Logan is Scottish name that comes from Gaelic word Lagan or lag , which “ hollow “ ( although name itself means “ little hollow “) . Tackett is Altered form of northern French tacquet or taquet : nickname from diminutive of old French tach “ hook” , buckle , loop , distinctive mark . Altered ending reflects Canadian and American French practice of sounding final - t . Hulsey is English: Altered form of Halsey . Means to hurriedly push it along . McGuire surname is Irish origin , Anglicized form of Gaelic mag uidhire” son of Odhar” means (sallow) . This was name of ruling family of fermanagh from 13th - 17 th centuries how regular Anglicized as maguire . I hope you like my research. Best wishes for you your family friends.
