It’s a chain reaction of buying new parts. I want new tyres, then need new wheels give you more tyre choice. The new wheels and tyres weigh more so you need bigger battery. Bigger battery works best with upgraded controller.

If he wan't more range he should change the chain for a non oring and put a bigger sprocket for the climbs, at the cost of losing top speed of course.

Thanks for the ride along. Nice bike. In those situations with the moto tire, you can let the air out… run it like 7psi and it’ll grip. Only thing is the rest of the ride you’ll have to be careful with the power so you dont pinch-flat.

Absolutely! Thanks for watching. Yeah I was running normal trail pressures. Should have dropped PSI for those lines.

Weight makes a huge difference on electric bikes. 20-30 pounds could mean a 5-10 miles difference in range. Biggest bang for buck I’ve noticed on my ultra is replacing the oring chain for a roller chain. Get you some proper hand guards as well. Forget the name of the guy I think it’s Stoltec that makes a spacer that you’ll need for the brake lever.

Yeah I got a roller chain on order. Curious to see how much it helps. Would be cool to get a couple more miles from it.

I ride in the PNW too. And I get 20 to 25 me of range on my UB. Did 20.5 and had 16% left. I ride in Daily mode most of the time.. Put it in sport mode when I hit the faster sections. Me and my son hit a hill just like what you were doing there 2 days ago and I took a tumble down the hill. Bruised my ribs and sprained my wrist. Luckily I had a lot of protective gear on. I found when getting off and pushing in rocks like that using the ECO mode gives me the best traction

Much RESPECT for tackling some solidly challenging slick/rocky/steep/rutted ‘n wet single track and trails. Liked and subbed. Keep it real and safe out there! Good to see riders out there like yourself doing more than pulling wheelies in da hood 😜…keep it up! 👊👍

There's a UB rider on youtube (@Schredder'sWorld ) that significantly increased his riding range by just switching to a non o-ring chain. He compared a single track loop where he got around 23 mi with the o-ring chain and about 35 mi with a roller (which is less than both o or xring chains). Bigger riders should take note.

I went with roller chain, don’t think my results were as dramatic. Maybe an extra mile or two, but as always tough to compare range on trails.

I would say. If you're doing trail stuff. Always ride with at least 1 guy. If you have a crash you may not be able to help yourself. So having at least 1 person is a good call... edit... any riding really is/should be done with people. More fun. More safe

What size back tire are you running? It sounds like you are having some brake rub at times and that might also be cutting down your range. The alignment of the rear axel sometimes gets a little off on mine and I'll get some audible rub.
@zekd

100 width. What do you mean brake rub? I believe It’s my chain that is making the noise. I need to recheck the alignment on it. Thx for the tip. It’s also a cheap x ring chain so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just poorly built.

@@zekd I thought I heard the sound of the brake pads rubbing on the disc. Mine does it at times if I don't have the chain tensioners as even as possible. I'm also running a 100/100-18. I noticed a big dip in range after going to the 21-18 wheels but only got a few rides in at the end of last season. I also switched to a 54-tooth rear sprocket with the new wheels.

I should see a bump in the summer. My Talaria is down to 15-18 mi in the winter, where in the summer I get consistent 22-24mi.
