I'm not apposed to camera surveillance in public in principle, after all anyone can observe you in public and using cameras on law enforcement (auditing) is rightfully a very important immunisation against corruption. Likewise for citizens to be surveilled by each other. You're already in plain sight anyhow. The problems I see are threefold. 1) Implementing facial recognition and access to private identification prior to probable cause for suspicion of illegal activity, is akin to unwarented search and identification that human patrols are not entitled to do. 2) The overbearing intrusion into public life, wherein scores of busy body security staff are employed to monitor and harass people in real time for petty misdemeanours. Having surveillance footage to rely on for criminal activity is one thing, but the voting public didnt mandate a campaign of petty micro managent of their every movement. While I dont appreciate people littering, I don’t agree with people being harrassed by employed staff behind screens with PA systems to LITTERALY play big brother babysitting us from on high. The ends do not justify the means. 3) Theres a huge imbalance of power here. If only the state has access to hold the public accountable then there is inevitable potential corruption at hand. EVERYONE needs access to these camera feeds and their logged recording files. If government staff, law enforcement and local government workers have no more or less access to the footage, then we're all on a level playing field, until we do,something wrong of course. The power to "accidentally" lose feeds and files as conveniently required to avoid accountability for law enforcement, goverment employees, politicians and officials who accept bribes is unacceptable. The more people who can survail in an open system, the less is required by government powers to provide and or risk being able to exploit. So, no auto identification without warrant or probable cause. No petty policing from a distance by hoards of babysitters, and no closed systems to privilege only the authorities who may abuse it and evade transparency for themselves.

Don't assume things such as "most". After all, I inform others at least once a month on common surveillance methods that are used, and I regularly receive shocked reactions. As an example, the majority of Americans are unaware that many police cars have high-speed scanners that scan every license plate around them, and then compare every plate to a database of stolen cars, as well as cars that belong to people that the state has deemed "problem" citizens. This technology has already been abused many times, and it's going to get worse. The ways this information and technology could be abused and criminally used boggle the mind.

You can be sure of one thing - this will be BAD for society. The benefits are obvious but that's not the main reason that it will be bad. When the Police can track peoples' movements it seems, on the face of it, to be good for fighting crime. Initially, that's all you'll hear about. What people don't realise is that it will be used to convict people of crimes that they did not commit. The Police do this type of thing already - they go into court and tell lies about people knowing that the people can't prove that the Police are telling lies. This happens EVERY SINGLE WEEK currently. When the Police can track your movements, they will be able to construct a narrative that places you at the scene of a crime and you'll be faced with proving that you didn't commit the crime, which is extremely difficult to do especially when you have been placed at the location of the crime. If you don't think the Police will do this, the I hope you don't find out the hard way. The Police are not your friend - they cannot be trusted.

People will always find a way around all these overrated technologies. Crime does not warrant the rest of the people to be surveilled. We honestly need to think more deeply about this. Look how irresponsible, depressed and lonely people have become through technology. People have become the product not the technology

@@nepetin I agree but the crim rate in this country is totally out of controll.... inside and outside!! If cameras were installed everywhere it WOULD put a dent in the crime AND corruption statistics.

@@DaphneNaslund I couldn't agree more with crime being out of control. The issue is I am not as optimistic about technology helping us solve or reduce crime. Big cities in SA have a lot of cameras installed by private households yet, crime continues to rise. We have to go back to addressing the factors that have made people so indifferent to theft and violating others and their properties. Until we address that, nothing will change. Even cars with trackers are stolen and hardly found. People will always find a way to work around technology. We need to address the key drivers for crime. I wish I was as optimistic as you that cameras will deter crime. Take care

Imagine if a small child goes missing. If the child were micro-chipped, he/she could be traced and saved without delay.

Th is only a small portion they’re telling us… if it’s “we are not alone” & big brother is watching ALL the time… IMAGINE… what they’re trying to distract us from knowing?

To distract you from things like knowing the 'Sentient World Simulation' exists. Its a synthetic mirror image replication of the entire world and everything in it. You are in it, I'm in it, everyone you know is in it. Your double has all of your information and data. Your preferences, how you think and feel about things. Where did you think your online data was really going? Its all playing out in a digital synthetic world.
