ACTUAL BEAR SURVIVAL TIPS: Black Bear- Make yourself as big as possible. Hold up a jacket or other clothing item. Make loud noises and yell. If it does attack(VERY Unlikely) fight back, hit the eyes and snout. Brown(Grizzly) Bear- Play dead, or alowly back away low to the ground. If you stay big or approach they think of you as a chellenger, they will fight until you go down(and you will). Thry will most likely not kill you when you go down(There is about a 1% chance thst they will kill you. You are no longer a threat. REMEMBER: They eat fish NOT Humans) White(Polar) Bear- The only was is to kill it(shoot it with a gun). Polar Bears have been known to stalk groups of men for weeks at a time. It WILL fight. If you play dead it will maul you. If you fight they will fight back until you are dead. Always go out with a gun when in an area with polar bears. If you are still reading, thank you. Please comment that you read to the end. THANKS.

I know many colour blind people, and they've told me that's not how it works, it's not the loss of being able to see colours, it's not being able to differentiate between certain colours, brown black and white are all colours that are easy for them to tell apart, it tends to be with green/orange blue/purple and yellow-green/green I'm also pretty sure red/orange is a common one, but brown/black/white is simple

This whole video is a contradiction. Survive in the wild. Snakebite: Go to the hospital at a leisurely pace. If you're that close, you aren't in the wild. You're down the street. These are more camping tips than survival because most of the tips involve items you wouldn't have in a real survival situation.
@RoughAndWretchedRAW
5 жыл бұрын
Can you imagine spending a night on a bed with no roof in the rain or in the snow? You're dead. The bed is a necessity for rest but if you get your roof built you can sit up all night in the rain still dry then build a bed in the morning then rest. It don't work the other way around because you'll be soaked in the morning and won't have rested anyway. This is what happens when someones idea of the wild is setting up a pup tent in the back yard. You gotta watch these so called survivalists doing videos also. Just watched this video yesterday 3 days winter camping. BS. he had the tent and the stove but nothing set up to sleep at all. He was day camping and pretending to be out there all night. All he showed was lighting the stove and cooking on the stove. He also mentioned he gets paid if you buy the stove and mention his Channel. I always try not to criticize people but things like this really piss me off because survival is not a joke. Even winter camping is survival because nature doesn't just pause when shit goes wrong. Lives are risked with bad advice or bad equipment recommendations. I've spent a lot of time in the bush in all weather to the worst extremes. Believe me nature has no pause button and screw ups caused by ignorance compound extremely fast. Best piece of advice I can give is before you take any advice off of youtube check the rest of their content. A single survival tips or critique video surrounded by top ten yoga moves and top ten cell phone charger myths probably aren't giving advice you want to bet your life on.

In a survival situation, if bitten by a snake, call 911 or walk to a hospital, man I never thought of that, how dumb of me. Only someone who has never been deep in a forest can say such non-sense. In snake territory, carry anti-venom from common snakes of the area, if you're dumb and you don't, well walk the 200 km to the nearest hospital, or call 911 with morse code bashed on a tree. Works everytime, the special forest ambulance service will get to you under 5 min.

pretty much lol.. In fact, even with the right anti-venom, chances are you will die anyway as the wound will go sceptic, you will not walk out of there. Little Bastard : As an Aussie that snake bite advice will get you killed here. If you don't wrap the bite tight & raise the bitten limb death is certain. Untreated bite from most of our venomous snakes will kill most healthy people in about an hour or less, moving will give you even less time. Also Browns & Tiapans don't dry bite often. Best advice is to always wear boots & jeans when Bush walking especially during warmer months November to March. Don't get hit!

I do not see how one can survive snake bites far away from civilisation ( depending on the snake of course ) my reflex would be in that order : stop the blood flow into my body, take anti-venom, treat the wound and stay put taking care of the sceptic wound for the next few days if I live as long as needed to do all these things. The point was that the video is simply stupid. You do not ask a geologist about astronomy, you know. So a doctor saying "go to the hospital" while deep in the wood sounded as dumb as a Trump quote to me. I once crawled my way out of an expedition deep in the mountains because I had a broken toe. At first I walked on it, eventually it became unbearable and swollen AF, could not get food for 3 days, had no strenght and could barely stay couscious from all the efforts I had invested trying to get out of there. Like I said, it's usually the little things that takes you out. I got lucky that day. My best survival advice I can give to anyone in any kind of territory : DO NOT DO IT ALONE ... make sure you have someone with you strong enough to carry you a few km in treacherous terrain. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge, I had Australia in mind when I imagined what the video was talking about. km upon km of uninhabited terrain, good luck walking to a hospital lol ya know ;) have a good one !

In my experience, animals are rarely problematic. Media greatly amplify the danger of animals. Rule of thumb is to respect them and their home and you will most likely be fine.. Lots of bears here, Black and brown, been face to face with them on many occasions, even with a mom and her cubs. 1 paw strike and you're dead, no way around that, but usually they just want you to go away, like us they are not likely to risk it, they got more important things to do. But like anything else, some people lack the knowledge or intelligence to act properly and it's usually those people we hear about in the news. I carry what is called a bear banger, never had to use it in over 10 years even though I met a good 10-12 bears at less than 10 ft distance. Bears seem to have difficulty discerning sounds when they are close to a river so this is the place you are most likely to surprise them. But if there is civilisation at less than 10km distance, a bear will stink so much that even a human can smell them at about 1 km distance, rather easy to modify your course. Far away from civilisation bears don't smell as foul though.

If you're falling without a parachute, make sure to not fall in water. The impact will be the equivalent of landing on concrete. A bush or some snow would be more affective at lessening the impact. Grand Admiral Thrawn not necessarily "survival situation" but "semi-likely accident". Knowing the proper first aid treatment to a snakebite is good, but if you can, get to a hospital. You're likely not gonna be *that* far away from one on a normal hike where you get bit.
@sinandcyanide7505
6 жыл бұрын
Matt S-J unless you're in Australia or sparsely populated parts of Africa, or out in the Arizona deserts, though Arizona gives you a better chance of being close enough to get to a hospital because the bites you're likely to sustain don't kill as quickly as some of the venomous snakes in the other two locations. A lot of the ones in Australia will kill you within half an hour or less.
@MathasiaJ
6 жыл бұрын
Don't forget to drink your Cyanide The video is a general video aimed at a large viewer base. I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you over the potency of Australian snakes, but having some knowledge of the area you plan to be in is always helpful. Also, the more dangerous snakes are generally in the outback, where pretty much everything can and will kill you, so being extra prepared is very helpful. An emergency beacon or a sat phone is essential. Also, tying a bloodflow restrictor(basically a loose tourniquet) will slow down the spread of the venom and you will gain a little extra time to have your travelling partner find reception to call an airlift, or activate the aforementioned emergency beacon. Being able to identify the snake and recount the type of snake to your 911 operator will put you higher on the list of priorities as far as emergency response. Carrying antidotes to snakes in the area is also good, if you're that paranoid.
@sinandcyanide7505
6 жыл бұрын
Matt S-J while tying a tourniquet will slow the spread, it's a bad idea. It causes additional damage to the area of the bite, sometimes causing loss of a limb that otherwise could have been saved. It also restricts blood flow in general. In Tennessee, a well-meaning passerby used a tourniquet to help a farmer who'd been bitten by a snake. When the farmer arrived at the hospital, his blood pressure was so low from the tourniquet around his arm that he was only minutes from death. Do not tie it off. Honestly, you might be better off just amputating the limb then and there if you're going to use that method. Also, when the tourniquet is removed, blood will rush to the area that was deprived and the venom will end up moving rapidly through the rest of the body, wreaking havoc all over.
@MathasiaJ
6 жыл бұрын
Don't forget to drink your Cyanide you don't tie a full torniquet. Tie a strip of fabric loosely around the limb between the bite and the heart, slightly restricting bloodflow. I am fully aware of the damage that a full torniquet can do. However, a loose tie will slow the poison spread while still maintaining safe blood pressure levels.

As someone in the southwest US, the suggestion to travel around at night in the desert is a very poor one. Yes, you want to avoid the mid-day sun, it's far to hot. But running around the desert in pitch black is going to accomplish very little while exposing you to great risk of injury. Seek shade during the afternoon, try to only be active in the morning and early evening, when you still have light. Once it's completely dark, the best thing to do is stay put until you have light again. Stumbling around a pitch black desert filled with cactus, unstable footing and rattlesnakes looking for water you can't see is a poor decision.

In regards to the shark part, I've always heard you need to try to hit it as hard as you can in the 'nose' because of how sensitive it is to pain in that area. But it was to try to "stomp" it as hard as you can, not use your fists, since you can exert alot more force underwater with your legs kicking downward (like jumping as hard as you can) as apposed to doing anything with your arms. Not that that actually works (I wouldn't know but always heard it does), it just makes alot more sense than to say just punch it any old where. Although maybe that's like when the airlines tell you to put your head between your legs. It isn't to break your neck so you don't potentially just burn alive, it's so you break your neck and guarantee that you cannot sue them later on. The Coast Guard says kick out at their face just so you go right on down their throat and they don't have to bother searching for your floating guts and stuff...

I honestly have to ask, have you ever SEEN a survival show? Because you specifically call them out as spreading this misinformation, but literally every single survival show I've ever seen says the exact same things you are: Don't eat snow, Find water first, Don't sleep on the ground, etc. It doesn't make what you're saying any less true, but it really damages your credibility when you say "Survival shows say to do this" when they actually don't
@OtakuMegane
6 жыл бұрын
Yes professionally-made survival shows and documentaries are generally accurate. However there are a lot of survival themes in fictional or "reality" TV shows, Hollywood movies and who knows how many KZitem/lifehacks/etc. Not to mention folk lore and word-of-mouth. Unfortunately a good majority of people do get their survival knowledge (and a lot of other random "facts") from those latter sources, not the documentaries. And even fewer people would bother to verify the information; they will just assume the person presenting it knows better.
@TheKyrix82

I'll admit I've heard pretty much all of these as anecdotes, or in movies, but again actual survival shows make it a point to immediately debunk all of these when relevant.

WATER - You can purchase water filter straws online for around $10. I keep one in each vehicle, in my work desk, and in every day pack. They are far better at making water potable and don't require a fire or pot to boil it in.

ilikebacon - FIRST, let me congratulate you on a superb ID. Everything is better with bacon. To your good question: you need a plan to get home no matter where you are. I'm in south Texas with plenty of refineries. Should anything happen that leaves me walking home it would be long, in the heat, and require hydration. It's also possible that I might not be able to get to my truck so for only ten bucks I keep another "life-straw" at my desk. Nobody expects terrorism but refineries are a huge target.

@BulletproofPastor
6 жыл бұрын
If you are asking about the $10 'life straw' the answer is yes. They are 'new in box' military units from Germany. A friend has tried them and they work as well as those costing three times the price. They aren't rated to filter as much as 'name brand' commercial units but 10k liters is plenty to get me home. With any method, I would use whatever is at hand as a debris filter to extend the life of the filter.

Thanks for the compliment but unlike most "survival experts" I don't claim to be one. Each situation is different and I've made it through eight major declared disasters. Most recent was hurricane Harvey that struck us dead on. I improve my understanding of needs each time. Other disasters include earthquake, hurricane, blizzard, ice storm, week or longer power outage, and a flood that covered two cities. I wrote a common sense approach to preparedness '11th Hour Preparedness' (available on Amazon.) Without 'telling people what to do' the book simply addresses typical problems and offers ideas on how to handle them. Every problem has at least three options; good, better, and best, that allows you to progressively improve your situation.

Speaking of survival myths that will get you killed...…..Pepper pray works with "curious" black bears but Browns, Grizzlies, or even a black bear mother with cubs will charge right through it and be extra pissed as it kills you. You need are large caliber firearm in bear country and you need to train with it regularly to have the muscle memory to react in time. The bear pray, bells and the rest of it is about as effective as sprinkling your self with pixie dust.

Agree with most of this, except the point about the sharks. As a freediver, and having encountered many sharks before in the past, i can tell you that if you can see the shark, it can see you and has likely been watching you for quite some time. Their senses are way better than ours in the water. The good thing is that if you can see it, it has most likely come in to see what you are because it is simply curious about you. Most shark attacks are extremely quick, and from a blindside position (usually from below the prey as it crosses over a ledge or drop off). The worst possible thing you can do in that situation with sharks is to panic and start swimming away from it. Yes, you can slowly make your way away from it, but it is more important to establish the fact that you are NOT afraid of it. One of my friends encountered a 3.5m white that had been swimming around him for some time, and it was only because he started kicking away from it that it turned on him. If not for his shark shield, he would have been eaten. Behave as though you belong and that you are unafraid, and the shark will read your body language and most likely think you are too dangerous to risk an encounter with. Realistically, if a shark wants to eat you, chances are you are screwed. Even if you can strike it, all it takes is one bite from those razor sharp teeth, and you are likely going to bleed to death.

In Stasis I heard sharks very rarely attack divers. Mostly they attack stuff on the surface and packs of fish. Or swarms. Or whatever. Group. And well if they get to attack you you are supposed to hang on its fin on his back or side and start stabbing the "kiemen"(forgot the english word.) Of the shark. Its supposed to hurt a lot and they are supposed to flee then. Makes sense. Because if you manage to get onto the side or back he cant bite you. You are totally screwed from the front anyways so when theres a fight - best opportunity. But I just highly recommend just not to swim with sharks.

@DaZebraffe
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, while you are fucking dying. Running is the absolute last thing you should do. Running raises your heart rate, which will pump the poison throughout your body much faster. While walking slowly will raise the amount of time your heart has to pump the poison all over, the increased pumping speed from running will spread it out much more than taking your time will. That being said, if you're actually lost in the wild, like the term "survival" implies, you're unlikely to be close enough to a hospital for it to matter one way or the other. Oh, and Tahnee Thompson? No, you're full of shit. As I said, the increased heart rate caused by running will do you more harm than the greater speed will do you good. Even walking fast-unless you're a professional athlete-is not a good idea.
@DaZebraffe
