Great to see a Dutch boat featured on this channel! I was looking up Frans Maas, quite amazed by his backstory, his father built BM's and zestienkwadraat boats in Zeeland (were the new one is based of), they were forbidden to build boats in the second world war, luckily the Germans missed the harbor in bommings, after the war there was no time for building fun boats. In 1953 one of the biggest sea flooding in ages destroyed the harbor and set back his boat building some more. He designed his first boat at 15, and was an early proponent of the split keel and rudder, looking at models from 1965 he adopted the split. I could go on, lots of backstory on a boat that ended up on the other side of the globe!

As a Commercial Diver, done a many ship inspections performing NDT, as per (ABS), American Bureau of Shipping, and the U.S.Coast Guard, it is when plates get to 20%, wastage of original design thickness, then the plate needs to be replaced. After all the inspections performed, I think I would prefer a steel hulled boat any day of the week. Easy to repair easy to maintain. Can withstand a lot more hydraulic pressure wave than wood or fiberglass. Maintenance is more predictable in planning and execution. Also add ones are easier if your a qualified welder.

@@YachtHunters LOL!!! Yes, agree. There is an old saying. If It ain’t broke don’t fix it. One of my most memorable inspections of a steel hulled ship was the, “Glomar Explorere.” If you know about that ship it was, “disguised as a, Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit,” ( MODU), used to recover the, “Russian Submarine K-106.” It was interesting going through the entire vessel inside and out. The ship was in the mothball fleet docking at the, City of Benicia, Ca. Towed to Hunters Point, San Francisco, Ca, then towed to, Portland, Oregon, for final refit and certification for open ocean voyaging. It was actually going to be used this time, for offshore oil exploration. They added a lot of new equipment to that ship. The cover story for that ship was, when it was in Hawaiian waters. It was going to be used as an ocean mining venture ship, to recover what was called by the press, deep sea nodules. When I saw the recovery bin in the front hold of the ship I laughed hard. Because the holding bins were no larger than the back of a pick-up truck. A ship designed and built to hold a pick up truck sized bed of deep sea nodules. It was a cherished memory in my career to have had such an historical opportunity. Some years later I heard from another inspector that the Glomar, caught fire and sank in the Gulf of Mexico. A formerCIA, employee told me that is how that agency works with projects like that. Get rid of, “Government Equipment,” accidentally. I still haven’t confirmed the sinking of the, Glomar, maybe you can find some truth to that story. Aloha Captain, hope to chat with you another day.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Safe New Year, gentlemen. I've tried to think of something different to say about your videos and I can't. They are an expert lesson in how to make a short factual film. Have a presenter who has forgotten more than the average sailor will ever know and who presents like it's a natural conversation with a big brother or favourite uncle. Have a director and producer who knows their art, inside out and who understands that less is often so much more. Few channels on KZitem give me so much entertainment and information in the way that high quality television used to and now rarely if ever does. If there were awards for people who have made this awful year, just a little bit easier to bear, you would qualify hands down. Thank you so much.

Good sturdy vessel and a good story. A friend of mine was sailing down the west coast of Africa when approached by a black inflatable he decided to fire some warning shots, it worked. Later, in the voyage his steering gear was damaged and so made for safety. Realizing that he had just grounded in a river in Saudi Arabia he ordered the gun be thrown overboard. When the army arrived the first question was where is your gun captain? He sent a crew to retrieve it. The army fixed his boat, refueled, gave his gun back completely restored with new ammunition and said "Please don't come back Captain".

Yet another beautiful yacht at a steel of a price. And OMG. What a history this one has. I've never seen such a Beautiful steel hull before. Great job Capt Q 👍👍😎✌✌ I'm wondering will you ever show us a multihull. 🤔🤔
