God Bless Brendan McDonough. He's had it toughest of all. He survived the deaths of his Brothers and lived to honor them.

Brendan I can’t imagine what you went through when you lost your friends, brothers. If I had gone through what you went through that day . I would have taken my own life to be honest. I wouldn’t be able to sleep with the pain and guilt that I survived and my friends didn’t. You sir are very brave to face that guilt head on.

I am watching from a few miles down the hill in Arizona as a wildfire burns not 3 miles from my home in identical rough terrain. Thanks be to God, there's no wind today. But in grateful humility, my heart goes out to the families of these heroes. We think about your firefighter. We pray for you. Thank you. Thank you for your unfathomable sacrifice. Our hearts break for you. The people of Arizona look on that site as sacred ground. As long as wildfires burn in Arizona, we will never forget you.

There’s not a day that went by since 2013. I haven’t thought about you sir! I truly wish you the best. I lost friends downrange but nothing like this. The fact you are still with us is a testament to your strength. I watched friends of mine who couldn’t cope lose the battle. Keep 19 strong Brendan! You got this. Wear life as a badge of honor for those who simply can’t. You got this buddy. If you ever need a place to get away from your head. My door is always open to such an outstanding member our society.

Brendan should be proud of himself. His guilt is so misplaced. I served for over 30 years in the fire service in the UK. The toughest fires I ever dealt with were crop; forest; and heathland fires. They’re just relentless; it was hour upon hour of grinding hard work.

@@saudakar9004 you need to watch the movie “only the brave”. It’s about that day. He is a survivor, watch it and you’ll see. Also he was working with the crew all day (just a few miles up from them) and running BY HIMSELF to escape the flames that suddenly came towards him. Also during that time he almost got burned alive until another hotshot saved him. So yes he is a survivor. Lastly, even if he didn’t encounter those traumatizing moments and just got brought to safety immediately he still is a survivor. Ex. Listening to all his brothers die over his radio is traumatizing enough he is a survivor from that tragic day. Every moment he made got him to were he is - alive = survivor EDIT: from what i grabbed from the movie (also many reviews said they got most of the movie dead on that’s why I keep referring to it) he felt so much guilt because he was a newly recovering drug addict who was new on the crew. So he thought why was he the one that got to live. Anyways I’ve never cried so hard at a movie in my life, but it worth the watch.

New details emerging how everyone hated brenden and a few wanted him dead so they plotted for him to be the lookout at the first most extreme moment they thought it was funny when they were laughing in the last rest spot confusion set in when they got the shocking call blue river got brenden that’s when things changed because they were trying to separate themselves innocently for the death investigation of brenden instead they got caught slipping out of place in reference to the wind change and tried to outrun the fire to the safety zone but by then it was to late
