Hi Ken. 1. That photographer at the square telling you names of the other khans around Chinggis khan. 2. That market has much more interesting stuff to see and buy. But I understand it was too cold explore more. Also those yellow berries are called Chatsargana or Seabuckthorn. Indigenous to Mongolia and Southern Siberia. It’s a fatty, sour and tangy berry packed with lot of vitamins and antioxidants. 3. That dumpling most likely to have a mutton. 4. That supermarket looked kinda small and lacks variety of items. 5. Germany is one of the biggest trade partners of Mongolia. Has been trading for about 60 years. Thus the variety of German brands you see there. 7. Yes that fried noodle is one of the most common dishes in Mongolia. It’s eaten throughout the year.

@@KenAbroad Yeah but that's not actually noodle. We call that food tsuivan but if it's with soup then it's guriltai shul which basically means soup with flour. Because it's made out of just flour. For us, there is a different dish with noodles (not really traditional). If you google Tsuivan it would say that it's made with noodles, but that's not true. Our traditional dish doesn't usually use goiman (noodles). More likely to use just flour, meat, and dairy products. And we don't use spices or soy sauce stuff like that. Modern young people might add or eat foreign food. But traditionally we don't use sauces like other East Asian countries.

I like tsuivan. But somehow the most well known Mongolian dish here is Mongolian chicken, which I have not seen in Mongolia.
@hoolidii
6 ай бұрын
@hann659 where? In Germany? Or are you mongolian too? That's probably a fake chinese dish, and people would just name it mongolian. Like mongolian BBQ. We don't even use soy sauce. We don't have enough chicken for us to consume like that.

I mean I'd think Eid or Ramadan (muslim festival) would be the likely time most shops there would be closed instead. I think the reason most shops there are closed maybe it's because Xinjiang temp there has plunged to -50 deg cel in winter.... So will you be going back to Xinjiang in Spring?
@ctourmaline
6 ай бұрын
@@KenAbroad It's much better to visit Xinjiang during Spring/fall time. In fact, Spring/fall are good seasons to explore China in most places. Especially in North part of China, unless you go for winter stuff like skiing or ice festival, or some indoor activities , most of time it is just too cold. People don't want to go out, the sky is dark and cloudy, all the plants look dead and everything just makes u feel gloomy. But after winter, they suddenly become live and everything is totally different. You probably should have gone to places like Guilin, Dali, Lijiang, Fujian, etc, and save Northern places like Xi'an, Beijing, Xinjiang for next time travel.

-24 was around the lowest I did downhill skiing in... maybe a little above that (-22 or -23 Celsius)... not comfortable, but you can quite easily spend the whole day outside in that, though, going up on the open chairlifts was a little Freezing. but that's if you are kind of adapted to winter... you see, a persons physiology very much changes... literally, if you are living in a cold climate your organs will start forming a special kind of fat that helps with maintaining body heat. your blood composition also changes, even the skincells will mutate to adapt to the climate.
