In this 2012 paper, Siegel looks at the phenomenon of cognitive penetration, where a person's mood, believes, desires and so on influence the content of their perception. She argues that important theories of perceptual justification mistakenly imply that we can gain justification for proposition p from perceptions that we only have because we believe p to be true.
