Strong victory for Hitchens here, good performance in front of a hostile audience.

'The War we Never Forgot' though sounding somewhat more poetic is actually not the title of Moral's book. There is over a thousand wondrous machines in that room that can, at the touch of a finger, reveal everything from the tenets of Sufism to a nice recipe for Jalapeno salsa and they can't even name the correct title of their guests book. Time for a purge.

51:32 - 53:17 Mr Hitchens makes his best point here, and still the audience look on grinning, smirking, reading phones/tablets. It must be so frustrating.

+CountZero78 I disagree, his best point was 1:05:34 - 1:08:22. But again, idiot audience remaining silent in their total inability to recognise the quality of the argument that was just put forward.

+SNM Dove I think in this debate he made several points that were really important. I agree with your highlight too. But his one 41:29 to 42:44 - should have resonated with this crowd but their cognitive dissonance is astounding that not one single person was moved by this point. It just proves that they are not truly concerned by corporate/government greed.

I often feel the same way. I teach at a private school with very similar kids who happily smoke away thinking its fine and they just laugh off the things I say to them, but I just I sow the seeds of doubt into at least one or two of their minds. Small victories!

50:12 Talk about hijacking the platform to make your own speech. Stop preaching to the audience and ask the panel a question! The chairwoman should have intervened. Also he seems a little jittery and overexcited - so much so he needs notes read off his phone.

robinsss There is no genetics involved - read the study, it relates to substance induced psychosis. If you take a drug that affects the brain then anyone can get a psychotic disorder. There is no genetic predisposition.

Furthermore, it's an insult to the intelligence that those who favour legalisation of cannabis almost always fallback on referencing alcohol and tobacco, when the topic is about cannabis, not alcohol or tobacco. Also, you'll often find that those who want cannabis to remain illegal and to be stamped out on the black market also want to encourage and deter alcohol and consumption, particularly in above moderate quantities.
@CountZero78

+SagaciousFrank It is true, they cannot defend cannabis based on its own merits without relying on the alcohol/tobacco comparisons. They simply cannot understand that the reason the legal drugs are more dangerous is because they are already legal and therefore available to all.
@robinsss

+SagaciousFrank we bring up tobacco and alcohol because until you legalize marijuanayou have an inconsistent drug policythere's no logical reason for tobacco to be legal while marijuana is illegal
@SagaciousFrank

+robinsss Clearly you do not understand that once a drug is legal and embedded into culture like tobacco and alcohol have been here for centuries (at least alcohol has, not as sure about tobacco), it is extremely difficult to nigh on impossible to outlaw them once they've been legalised. There is an inconsistentcy in your logic that thinks it is wise to legalise another dangerous poison when we already have two that inflict serious damage on both individuals and society at large.
@SagaciousFrank

+robinsss And one other thing, this lobbying for cannabis legalisation by those like yourself has absolutely nothing to do with fairness or equitability, and everything to do with hedonistic self-indulgence by consumers of cannabis and by big business who can advertise and sell it on a mass scale.

***** '' once a drug is legal and embedded into culture like tobacco and alcohol have been here for centuries (at least alcohol has, not as sure about tobacco), it is extremely difficult to nigh on impossible to outlaw them once they've been legalised'' that does not justify having and keeping an inconsistent drug policy

That guy Will made the argument that you could apply the arguments for cannabis to heroin and I agree and I want to see dog meat and other kind of meat legal, in some western countries it's looked down upon and might even be illegal, but why ? I can use the same arguments people use for cannabis or other drugs, just to name some examples: cow etc meat is legal so why not dog meat, do I harm someone by eating dog meat, do I cause a violent crime ? No, it's my freedom to eat dog meat if I want to. You're not forced to eat it if you don't want to, I'm not coming for your dog, we can use dogs who are not currently owned by anyone. Dogs are "different" and intelligent ? Look up studies for pigs, they are intelligent too yet if you're not a vegetarian you eat and kill them. And even if you're a vegetarian or vegan that's no proper counter argument, because dog meat isn't really harmful so by legalizing it there is no problem. I'm a minority so my rights don't count ? Then LGBT rights also shouldn't count. Don't be a hypocrite let's be consistent and legalize these kind of things too.

+Radioactive Japanese there is nothing hypocritical here and i say this from someone who isn't really on either side of this. when something has legal status where it previously did not it becomes harder to then control it if you remove its legal status for something that was always legal this problem does not arise because you never controlled it and so its tendrils are so wide spread, normal, and commercial even that it's impossible to control. finally if you're going to make analogies make sure they're analogous meat after all has no psychotropic properties.
