Thank you so much for this! This was very informative, especially because you included a few different styles. I did notice that there weren’t any with underwires or the support of a “traditional” tshirt bra or pushup bra. I’m new to sustainable fashion, so I was wondering if that is because there are fewer sustainable options like that or if your personal preference just isn’t a very structured bra.
@MyGreenCloset

There aren't many sustainable options in those styles mostly because the foam isn't very eco-friendly I think, but if you check out the linked roundup there are a couple options that do underwire bras and one that has molded cups.

Wearing a non-standard bra size as well, I cannot recommend Lara Intimates enough! After searching for a bra that actually fit comfortably in about 10 stores (including the delightful process of being fitted, being told I was actually a different size than in the store before, and then having to look for 'sister sizes' bc they didn't carry mine) and basically having given up on finding a sustainable option at all, I came across their website and decided to order five bras so I could try out differend models and at least find one that fit. They all fit. ALL OF THEM. I could not believe it. Normally, I'd find one bra model that fit but all the other models from the same brand still wouldn't. I now have slightly too many bras but I love them so much! They are comfortable, they have shown no signs of wear in the past year, they give me just as much support as I need but have no wire digging into my chest, and they have the capability of looking cute, sexy and badass at the same time. (They also look good on you if you don't shave, I always felt like that looked somehow off on me when wearing what I used to consider a 'normal' bra) Also, every time I find out more about their company I just love them more. The pictures of the bras on the website show them on women of almost all sizes so you can really see what it would look like on you. Their blog entries are just lovely. They've introduced a four-day week because they want to keep making working conditions better for their employees. And, as Erin said, they use scrap material. Should you, patient reader, be in search for a bra and consider checking them out, do it. Even if you just check out their website, it's so full of body positivity, you'll leave it feeling good about yourself. Which is something not many underwear ads do.

Thank you for a fantastic video. I want to add a suggestion that may end up working for some ladies- going braless! I have two kids and in my first pregnancy my already biggish breasts ballooned and I went through serious boob hate. I discovered the expensive bra boutiques and online stores, buying second hand bras online, and there was never one that really made me happy (they were all underwired monstrosities, so, how could they?). After all that money was spent and I was finally out of nursing bras (the worst kind) for the second time, I finally summoned my courage to go out and about braless. It's a choice I made to save money, be less concerned with my body being acceptable to others and be comfortable. Also, it's sustainable. In the two and a half years I've been going braless I have a new appreciation for my body. It may not be for everyone, but the fashion of wearing a bra has had it's day and we should definitely let women feel free to opt out of the trend. Who's with me?

Thanks so much for this video! I'm actually in the process at re-assessing my bra situation. Ever since getting a simple organic cotton bra from Organic Basics, I've completely abandoned all my other bras, but I'm not sure I'll repurchase from OB... I've been looking at People Tree and I'm happy to see all these options too! I'll have a good look through all the brands you mentioned. I've also been looking into how to recycle my older bras - they're all in pretty great shape really - and I heard Smalls for All is an option but haven't done my own research yet. It'd be great to hear more about how to recycle intimates like underwear and socks. I'm not really interested in making rags out of everything (I don't need any!), but I'm not sure textile recycling is all that widespread.. :(
@MyGreenCloset
5 жыл бұрын
If they're in good condition often you can donate them to local organisations or women's shelters, I've also seen breast cancer groups occasionally do "bra drives". It gets difficult to recycle though if they're not in good condition because there are so many different components and materials. Some textile recyclers seem to take them, but others don't - it really depends 😕

Thank you for this video; it's great to know there are a growing number of sustainable bras in a wider range of sizes. I also wear a non-standard bra size but I don't like how big my breasts are and am more comfortable wearing minimizer bras (that are also T-shirt styles so that nothing shows through my shirts) and although I have looked a lot, there doesn't seem to be such a thing on the ethical and sustainable market right now (though I would be happy to be wrong about that).

I have a set from underprotection (on sale and I live in Europe), but there was some fraying on the straps as soon as I received it. Not very happy about that. Also, I reached out to them about the size that'd fit me, and the one I got is a touch too small (I put on a lot of weight last year and I'm slowly losing weight now, so at some point, it'll be a great fit, but it was still disappointing). I want to try essentials for zula because their styles look beautiful to me, but they're geared towards smaller busts, so I'll wait. Also, they ship from Thailand I think, where they only work with local fabric producers and local workers for their small factory, to boost the local economy. But of course, the shipping all the way from Thailand is not the best. I'd love to try Erlich (German brand) and Woton and Organic basics, but the last 2 are super expensive for my own budget. I'll have a look at your directory, I always love discovering new options. Also, could you do something about socks, tights, leggings, thermals, that kind of thing please? I found some wool socks (95% wool, 5% elasthane at a market in Italy, don't know the brand) but haven't found 100% wool, and it's hard to find 100% natural fibers that are actually natural (linen, hemp or organic cotton). Thank you Erin!
