The diversity of our cultural ecosystems - artistic, linguistic, and tradition-rooted - is increasingly endangered by the dominance of Western styles of music and the economic pressure of commodification on creative practice. How can organizations and event organizers in the music sector mobilize to defend folk traditions against cultural erasure? How can we not only support but actively promote important artists who are unrecognized by and/or uninterested in participating in the industrial production of music? Join an international group of presenters and event producers who are passionately fighting to preserve regional cultures and local traditions as they grapple with these questions and share their approaches.
Panelist: Birgit Ellinghaus, Franki Raden, Mu Qian, and Umair Jaffar
This pre-recorded session aired at the 2023 Folk Alliance International Conference.
