Suwannee Springs is a historic sulfur springs near Live Oak, Florida. First used by Native Americans and later by U.S. soldiers during the Second Seminole War, the springs were the site of a major health resort and hotel during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The picturesque ruins of the stone enclosure built around one of the larger springs can still be seen at the park, which is managed by the Suwannee River Water Management District. These unique sulfur or sulphur springs were thought to have medicinal properties and the water was even sold in pharmacies by druggists who claimed that it could cure a variety of ailments from sicknesses of the kidneys to blood diseases. The last hotel at the site burned down in 1925 and today Suwannee Springs is a beautiful park by the Suwannee River known for picnicking, sightseeing, swimming, birding, hiking, and more.
