Suzanne Jackson, Assistant Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, lead for the Master of Public Health Global Health Concentration, and head of the WHO Collaborating Centre in Health Promotion at University of Toronto speaks about the importance of health promotion as part of improving health on a global level. Suzanne provides a snapshot of the 1986 Ottawa Charter areas of action and highlights the charter's focus on strengthening health systems by strengthening all aspects of health care: primary, secondary, tertiary, community, public, and health promotion. She also describes the increased focus on global health promotion in the 2007 Bangkok Charter and urges students to think about looking at the broader social determinants of health and understand the interactions between the many levels of health care as they apply to Global Health.
