I just bought a 2023 DF6A for my 1232 aluminum jon boat, and am waiting for it to arrive. It is the lightest outboard in the class by several pounds, which is very important at my rather advanced age. And among other things, that oil level inspection window is very nice to have. Suzuki is much more keen to give it to you than other manufacturers too... at least this is true on their motorcycles. I've owned over 40 motorcycles, and only the 3 Suzuki's had oil inspection windows. My Suzukis were also rock solid and reliable. I still have 2 of them, and I wish all my bikes had been as economical to purchase, as long-lived, and as easy to own. This will be my first Suzi outboard, and only my 3rd outboard period, but I have 100% confidence in the brand. As far as I can tell, nobody gives you more for hard earned cash than Suzuki. I would even suggest that this is their "specialty". Thanks for the video, and the tips for some great accessories.👍

Great video mate! Looking to get a motor for the same boat from bcf. I’m really having a hard time deciding between Yamaha or Suzuki. So anything above 6hp you’ll need a license? I was planning to put a 8hp on this.

My 2019 year 5hp engine had the exhaust valve stem seal removed at pre-delivery from Suzuki Australia! I’ve done over 45hours now and runs awesome! If you own a mid 2016 to 2019 year 4-5-6 hp engine take to dealership to have the update done!

I wish someone here in the US would have owned up to the problem with the sticking exhaust valve. We had to finally get rid of the engine. Absolutely no customer support from Suzuki. They wouldn’t even admit to having an issue with their valves, even when it was mentioned on several Internet forums. A lot of the people couldn’t get the problem resolved, like us, and had to junk the engine.

@@inservioverum Thanks man I'm excited. Just got a new suzuki 6 hp for my jon boat. We go bass fishing on the lakes. I heard there's a 10 hour break-in period where you idle for the first hour. Then gradually cruise at low rev.
@inservioverum
3 жыл бұрын
@@bradhuskers I've read about that break in procedure for the Suzuki and very similar break in procedures for other marine engines. I firmly believe in following manufacturer recommendations for break in procedures. Its a bit frustrating with each new engine but the payoff is well worth the effort... optimal performance, efficiency and longevity after an appropriate break in. Definitely vary the throttle position every couple minutes the first few hours.

@@inservioverum Thanks again!! Will do. Quick question. I transport my jon boat in my truck bed. So I have to lay down the suzuki motor when the boat is in .my truck. With the propeller facing upward on a rubber mat, will it leak oil or gas?
@inservioverum
3 жыл бұрын
@@bradhuskers Always turn the fuel valve off when its being transported. My 2006 Suzuki DF6 has a picture of a person carrying the engine... turning the fuel valve to that side shuts off fuel flow from the gas tank. Also I lay the engine on the opposite side of the gear shift lever when storing it inside or while driving it around. The carburetor is also on the opposite side of the gear shift lever. The carburetor should be above the engine (highest point) when being transported to prevent engine oil from exiting the air intake of the carburetor. I never had any fuel or oil leak out transporting it on its side (opposite of gear shift lever). One important thing I need to remember is to turn off the fuel valve and let the engine idle until the carburetor is completely out of gas, engine will simply stall when carburetor dries out. A dry carburetor will stay clean while being stored as opposed to stale gas corroding it and leaving varnish all over the tiny openings in it.

Stay away from this engine. Suzuki screwed us. We had a 2018 and had to junk the motor, because every time we tried to start it after sitting for a few days, the exhaust valve would be stuck, no compression or bent push rod. Went to authorized repair facility, they replaced everything from the cam up thru the valve train and also the cylinder head. Same problem. Suzuki would not let us talk to anyone and hung up on us. There are numerous complaints about this problem on the forums. Good for a boat anchor. We were told there were no complaints, and that Suzuki had never heard of the issue. There is some kind of problem that doesn’t let the moisture from the exhaust valve area vent, so this causes corrosion on the valve stem and resulting stuck valve.

This will take a 10hp, however the weight of a 10hp 4 stroke makes it less portable. You would need an old 2 stroke.

@@ronthegunman5724 I had a slip neighbor in my marina, who ever took care of his DF6A, and never had a problem either. It was a few years older than my 2018. It is kind of a random problem. Just be careful about how you store the engine. Suzuki says to store in a clean dry room. This means they don’t want you to keep them outside, in a Marine environment. They are saying this, because of all of the complaints that they have received about problems when the engines are stored outside. I am now storing mine inside, and am having better luck. A Marine engine should be able to be outside in a Marine environment, such as being stored on the transom of a tender for a yacht, or sailboat, without having issues. This tells me that these engines were constructed with substandard materials. Suzuki outboards are known for corrosion problems.

Thanks for posting--two questions if I may. What is the SLOWEST speed you can run? Second, did you compare this Suzuki with any other 6 before purchase in terms of pricing, reputation-? The Tohatsu, the Yamaha, etc./all? thank you
@seanudal
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I did compare to other 6hp and the Suzuki is the lightest. The 3 way carry options was good as the Honda did not have this. It is still running very well after a year. You can go very slow however a 1 piston engine shakes a bit. I was looking at a Yamaha and have owned a Yamaha before. The dealer in our city was not as keen to market the Yamaha. The Suzuki dealer was better in my city. After sales service is another important part of the purchase. This may be different in each city and country.
