Great video very true K5/6 pulls the hardest of the 1000s its a raw (relativly long stroke engine) Suzuki ponies are big ponies, suspension is supple yet perfect. Mine has 8K miles on most of that on the TT mountain course. Leave the engine and pipe standard its got all the power you need, listen to that intake snarl. Best performance mod...fit an 04 R1 throttle tube for a £5 that way you can open the taps fast and fully in each gear. Best handling mod carbon wheels... ouch£ turns like a 600 over 120mph and brakes get the power back like R1 blue spots. Best touring mod (its true these are comfortable) double bubble screen.

Hello there, I share your passion for this bike; ie., the 2005/6 iteration. No catalytic converter and incredible power. I made the mistake of turning 60 and thought I should get a BMW to slow down. What a mistake. I bought a R1200RSE BMW, which was despite all the electronics, a slow old mule. So when I went to look at getting another Suzuki they had put two pipes on it, heavy hydraulic clutch and lots more weight. So when the L series came out with one pipe I got rid of the BMW. I have a new L2, but I missed the 2006 GSXR so much I have bought one as well. Arrives next week. You forgot to mention that this classic model has titanium pipes from the headers to the exhaust. I believe it is the lightest GSXR ever made, and with the crappy EU exhaust regulations probably will be the lightest forever. Apart from that I agree with everything you said, and there is still very few bikes can keep up with it.

I remember back in 1998 when I had a 96 Honda CBR600F3, and all I did was a Yoshi full exhaust with 1 tooth down on the front sprocket, and I was riding with a friend that just bought a SRAD 98 GSXR 750 and I was blowing him away. I didn't even know it was happening because I was just riding with him in a group. It was so bad that he actually thought there was something wrong with his 750. 750's just seem like a waste. In my opinion, get a 600 to do some learning, and then graduate to a 1000. Even the new Yamaha R7 is completely stupid in my opinion. I believe the r6 gives it a spanking. Therefore I went from the XBR to a 2003 R1, which is old as hell, but I found it with only 10,500 miles. I did plenty of upgrades, and it's as fast as I'd ever need, and weighs the same as a 600. 423 wet weight before my mods. Probably 410 lbs now. So, even my 20 year old R1 would spank all 750's, which is why I suggest you try a liter bike. I think you'd never look at a 750 again.

I wheelie it all the time without worrying. 40 thousand miles and still going strong. I put a Yoshimura TRC tri oval slip on and had my power commander tuned last year. It's still putting out 169hp. I think the bike looks great and runs even better. I wish I seen one with that low of miles. I would have two. Good luck and definitely go with your gut when choosing. Take care

Bradders 2016 - They only crack from crashes and slamming wheelies. The welds aren't going to just magically crack on their own. Check the frame and If you crash just get a new frame. Reinforce the welds if you're that scared. Amazing bike regardless. The price hasn't really dropped that much.

Great bike I own the same ;) I also had a 2004 zx10r for 2 years before can't decide wich one is best though... The gixxer make better power down low. the kawasaki just feels more mad even in 2nd gear it was impossible to get the front wheel down WOT. Pretty sure it was just the shorter wheelbas/agressive power delivery the gixxer is just as fast and more comfort. The only thing I hate about mine is the clutch when taking of I owned lots of bikes and no bike I ridden before had such a terrible clutch feel.... I run a 43 rear sprocket instead of stock 42 but I also have a higher (190/550vs 190/50) rear tyre so it's about the same like stock no need for speedohaeler :)

Feel no need to do it on the gixxer it's fine the way it is the only thing that annoys me is the clutch but can be fixed cheap something to do for the winter ;)

Great walk round, well put. BMW bench marked against this to develop their 1000 and that was when this model was 4 years old! I run a K6 (same bike) in the IOM so it gets to really show what it can do, I would not trust anything else, its ballistic and stable. The only mods are double bubble screen, quick action throttle (fit R1 throttle tube) and carbon wheels. You dont notice the Carbons till 120+ as the standard wheels are so light. They they dont come into their own till your flicking the bike around at 120+ so on the Mountain circuit those wheels are stunning but in the UK its bling value only really. Best fuelling ever and pulls from no where.

I totally agree with you! This is the best GSXR and the looks are great! Why Suzuki haven't made another top 1000cc to compete with the current crop is beyond me!

Stunning! My first bike was a brand-new suzuki 500F. I learned about Suzuki reliability back then. I have an R1 now but I still love Suzukis.

Thanks Mark for your review. I've got a question, do you have a personal opinion on the 1000 K5 vs 750 k6? I'm really unsure wich one to get. Already rode the 750 but never this K5 model, just the k3 one.

I am looking at one tomorrow so I am currently browsing some videos on it. Yours does seem to have some rough idle!? Was the valve timing ever adjusted? Beatiful bike though, has been well taken care of!

The idle settles down nicely when the bike has warmed up ,when I started it was stone cold ,hope you find yourself a nice one ,they are amazing to ride ..regards MARK.

sadly selling mine on fleabay this week to pay off mortgage... having owned every incarnation of gixxer from gsxr1100 through to k7 and even busa ...this is the ultimate machine.. so good bmw stripped and evaluated 5 to build the current s1000rr only the requirement of pillion duties for my 13yr old daughter and a mint 1250 bandit eases the pain!

Owned a Y/B K5 from 07-09. Thing was a beast, been out of the game since but now learning of its legendary status. I expected technology to keep getting better to be honest.

My comment is 5 years old and I just got a ❤. I've since owned a K9 from 2016-2018. It was more top end. Nowhere close to the midrange of the K5. Bikeless again, 4 now.

Thanks for posting. I was looking at a ZX9R but a few people have said I'd like the GSXR K3/K4 1000 but a few K5's are creeping within budget. You say your paid £4.1K for it, during 2013 when you posted this video - why are the prices so much higher now? What are the checkpoints for this model specifically?
@markpulling12

+roadsonboard Hi I think i was just lucky with the price I paid ...and yes they seem to be arrround the £4.5 k mark still ..they really are that good so I suppose thats why they hold their value. just check the frame and front brake master cylinder recalls have been done other than that they are bullet proof ..all the best mark
@roadsonboard

Thanks for the video. I ended up with a 6,500 mile 2 owner example of a GSXR 1000 K7 with twin yoshi's, under tray etc etc. Didn't fit on a K3, K5's just varied far too much price wise and condition wise. Have to admit the engine is shocking smooth, good fuelling and pulls cleanly and quickly like a turbine from tick over. Very easy to ride at low rpm which I wasn't expecting. Thanks again!
