Generally speaking, I ride my bikes on full beam during the day, which would give twin headlight bikes that 'even' look. I do it so that I can be seen more easily, and during daylight it doesn't blind oncoming traffic. The only downside to this is that it means it's a bit too much of a faff using the passing light switch, but I hardly ever use that anyway: it's easy enough to just beckon someone through, or wave a thanks.

Mr Flyer Sir, @10:17 you say that it utilises a dipstick to check the oil, but you'd prefer it to have a sight glass window for the oil level..........but isn't an oil level window visible (at 7 o'clock) under the clutch cover @21:46 ? With regards to only one H/L illuminating on dip......I think this could be a safety thing, as it is said that at night (the close together) twin headlights of a bike can very easily be mistaken for the (further apart) headlights of a car/van/lorry way off in the distance, rather than those on a bike which could potentially be much much closer. Summat to do with how the brain perceives the distance between the lights and then processes that info into how far away it thinks they are. Hope I've explained myself understandably there!!!

Pardon, I just have to add, I like how you mentioned the GSX’s throttle response, real world, and a few other real world things a rider would notice. Some other reviewers or magazines just seem to rehash previous comments or just state the obvious. Me, just being an “avg Joe” rider, was sort of looking at the FZ09, a popular magazine mentioned snatchy throttle and not good suspension. All good 👍 and valid, but it seemed for years after, that’s what other reviewers would rehash. The FZ09 passed DOT standards, so the bike must’ve been viable. But as a consumer, I remember wanting a real world review. I’m not a “moto GP” pro, at least not in the real world. 🙃 So thank you. I like the GSX-S. It’s on my wishlist.

Simply because I've gotten older and prefer the more comfortable riding position, yet still looks like a Sport bike, more than a touring bike. This bike is absolutely amazing. It does everything you want it to do with ease. It is so easy to ride for a 1k liter bike with minimal input for even beginner riders. I believe one reason for the single dipped headlight is that at night, oncoming traffic only see one light, and is therefore easier to conclude that you are a motorcycle, whereas two dipped headlights could look like a car that is far away, rather than the reality that it is a bike that is relatively close, the oncoming traffic may in this scenario be tempted to make a right turn when it is not safe to do so.

I have a 2018 version I have owned for a couple of years now. A couple if FYI's... There are multiple soft tank bags available utiizing hooks underneath the rear pillion. I have found when touring, I can added both of them plus a rear back on top and have quite a bit of capacity. The next item is the front windscreen. The one in the video is a touring version but in US spec the standard is lower and very much appears to look like a sport bike's. As far as the headlights, I think he was incredibly charitable on the headlights. One word, they STINK! I have upgraded mine to Sylvania's Ultra's and they are tollerable. Lastly and I think this needs to be touched on more, this bike is fast and handles well. Not a perfect track weapon but one that gets you 90% of the way there but also is good on the street. Also, the suspension is a fully adjuster KYB wth inverted forks.

Excellent TMF review, as always. I own a 2019 version and it's been fantastic. I have the same screen, and can confirm it is definitely the touring screen. The bike has a sight-screen and not a dipstick. All reviews I've seen refer to lack of luggage options. In fact, I managed to get a Givi rack and top box fitted by my dealer. Transforms the bike into a brilliant solo tourer and is used daily for my 22000 miles p. a. commute. An absolute belter of a bike.

I'd say the complaint about luggage options mostly had to do with getting hard bags for the sides. One can get racks and kits for it (most notably Ventura?), but there's just not a lot and what's there requires a 20-years-in-the-past amount of bracketry. Others, notably Kawasaki, have (finally!) been designing subframes for luggage rather than relying on aftermarket engineering. A dealer can get and install anything a customer can. It would be nice for Suzuki to offer options (on other bikes than Stroms) from the factory.

@@mickangel3945 It might be. My FZ6 used two H4 bulbs which have both high and low filaments each, but only the low of one connected and the high of the other. It was just a matter of getting the low filament bulb connector on the high beam to have both running low beam. However, BE SURE to use a relay that disables it when the high beam is on as you aren't supposed to run both filaments at the same time for more than a moment. The light pattern looked exactly as it should. Double-check but I believe this bike also uses the same bulb for both high and low, so it could well be the same idea.

SW-Motech Blaze bags are a nice option for luggage. About 20l/bag capacity and includes dry bags. Definitely not a 2-up tourer but works well as a light/simple sport touring machine. Interesting to see the oil sight glass has been replaced with a bolt - my 2018 has a sight glass vs dipstick.

Great review TMF and glad to hear that you found the fuelling not to be the issue that’s been reported elsewhere on this bike. Potential Sunday morning scratcher (in the naked form) for me at a reasonable price. Now to watch your Trident review to add to the mix.....

Maty,I have one and you can't hear the horn when riding which is where we want it so not in the garage!Fitted an after market PIAA double horn and it's plastic therefore cannot be hidden away next to the engine as the original so it's in a tank bag and wired up! Suspension you did not mention, funny that, as the rear is poor quality, fit an upgrade!! Damping on the front leaves a lot to be desired ,did you go over any bumps, bad roads? The after market people make a kit for the internals and we know why!

This bike was not designed as a tourer,. It is a comfortable, capable, amazing sounding and fast liter sport bike. For me the gearing negates any touring capability in that 6th gear is neither a tall ratio nor an over-drive, same ratios as the GSXR, it screams at 4600rpm at 65 mph. I bought a phantom model, and love it.

Got the F model. Nice bike to ride but a pig to work on. Just removing the air filter seems to be a major job with seat, fairings and tank panels all needing removal before you can even lift the tank,Haven't even atempted it yet but I am dreading it. Can't seem to find any clear tuitional as to how its done. I should have bought the naked version I think!

Great review, thank you Sir! As to the luggage, Givi/Kappa offer full size topbox options, and semi-rigid mid-sized saddlebags. Still less than a Ninja 1000SX out of the factory, but a very respectable aftermarket option. The passenger grab handle issue does remain though. Thank you once again, very insightful! I appreciate you!

Terry, I have the tracer Gt I adjusted my high beam to the same height ( so they are both on dip) as the other headlight, and leave both on during the day. I don’t really ride at night so it’s not a problem. You just have to leave the high beam switch on.

Very fair review of a great all round bike imo. I guess it's old school now but fine by me. Not overly fussed with the latest & greatest TFT & electronics etc & cost/value for money are significant factors for the vast majority including me. Glad you liked it. I've been obsessing about this bike lately I like it a lot but faired or not faired gotta try and see I guess ,my wife really does not like bikes or me on them so no issue with a passenger .The test is I guess Andy would you buy one given your experience I am am also reckoning on less or no electronics just means less sensors to go wrong good one thanks . : )

FWIW Naked model is easier oil changes and lighter. Faired gives more protection and additional front downforce at speed for more traction. I like my Bandit so had trouble deciding. I like my naked now that I have it.

I bought the naked version a couple of years ago and absolutely love it. Completely agree with all the points you raised, it is a fantastic bike. I've also heard the reports of fuelling issues & hard seat but never experienced either, even when riding all day on it. I did test the faired version and the wind protection is significantly better on that, as you'd expect. As you say, an awful lot of honest bike for the money. Another great review. Thanks TMF

I have the Suzuki and would actually prefer an analog tach. Especially when in the upper RPM range, hard to read the bar graph. Mainly because that is highly illegal speed territory so a quick glance is all that one can afford under those circumstances.

@@tomdickharryjane Even i am a fan of analog tach in bikes but its becoming rare these days and only few modern bikes have it such as Streep Triple R and few retro bikes.

I often wonder why bike manufacturers don't offer more luggage options. Tank bags and tail packs aren't really enough. Suzuki aren't alone. Triumph cough cough (at least ) . They only seem to think people want to lug stuff on Adventure bikes these days and a few years back sports tourers (of which there aren't that many to chose from now ) I wouldn't mind touring, but I really don't want big wheels and long travel suspension that means I am on tip toes when the bike comes to a stop. Plus they're not bad at handling, but the long travel suspension and big wheels seem to make them vaguer (is that a real word?) than non adventure bikes.
@TheMissendenFlyer

Yes I get that - to be fair the aftermarket world tends to be able to sort most bikes with some sort of luggage...

well those headlights seem pretty pathetic, watching you flick it onto main beam all that seems to do is light up a small section of the road to the lower right of the bike and not light the road ahead.. just what is wrong with modern bike design, I had it on my 2005 GSXR1000K5 I ended up fitting an HID conversion so I could see the road ahead in the dark, why don't bike manufacturers have dual H4 beam twin lamps like my old Fireblade, you could actually see where you need to, instead of struggling to see ahead, so you're not the only one with this pet hate of only one light being on, to the point I converted my VTR SP1 to dual dips, dual mains, when I had it. I really don't all the electronics on modern bikes, I honestly think it's to keep the snowflakes and riders with no ability safe, so bike makers don't get sued, we have come to that in the 2000's... the rain mode, is that twisty thing on the right bar, if you've been riding as long as I have, you learn how to not highside on wet roads by not giving it large on the twisty thing, it's "all" about safety in this day and age, and I'm sorry, but I find it pathetic, it's motorbikes ffs, they are supposed to scare you a little, be a bit out there, on the edge.

The two headlights side by side is a bit of a safety hazard. At night the two headlights may look like a car that is further away, to a car driver that is coming toward you. I always turn off the second light when another driver is coming my way. So he can tell that I am on a bike. I really like the GSX-S 1000. I currently ride an MT07 but I would like to add this bike as a longer distance machine. Thank You for the review.
