In the plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico, bright pops of color appear from both the gorgeous August flowers and the paintings, textiles, jewelry, and sculptures on display at rows of booths. Every piece has been created by an indigenous artist who has perfected their craft for years before showcasing their work to a panel of judges and massive crowds from around the world. If you've never been to SWAIA/Santa Fe Indian Market, it's a once a year celebration of indigenous creativity and excellence. We pre-gamed Friday night in Albuquerque at Shy Summer Market, a small collection of indigenous artists, musicians, and food vendors--many of whom were going to be at SWAIA the next day. Then on Saturday, we boarded a train and headed north to Santa Fe to join the throngs of people. So much to see and do! Join us as we meet up with old friends and meet new ones at SWAIA 2023.
