Thanks for the look around again. I'm always interested in how your system is delivering for you in terms of expectations vs. results. Sounds like it's right on track. I know I'm always bugging you for a look around the swales, but you know what would do it for me? A drive-by from the road. The place next door and then your place from a distance. That would make a good overview. Thanks again, Vic. Have a great season out there. Keep those dogs working on those pocket ponds.

Thanks so much for the tour, it's fascinating to see the awesome work that you are doing with your property. I was wondering if you could tap the area around the fracture back so that the fracture is pretty much closed up. If the seat isn't damaged, lead solder does a pretty good job of closing up small gaps. If it doesn't close up too well, you could also lay a length(s) of thin copper wire in the fracture to provide extra area for the solder to attach to. Thanks Again & Best Regards, Jon

Out of curiosity, what's the reason the trees are on top of the Swales ? Seems like in a dry climate that wouldn't be the best location . And swale can be a wind buffer for a tree that's just getting started. Looks good though

Clin Actually the trees benefit from the water held in the swales along with nitrogen fixing plants on the swales as well. The trees are semi dwarf and will get fairly tall, creating shade for other companion plantings that can benefit from the shade. This swale will not buffer much since it's maybe 4-5' high at most. Being down below the hill behind us does help with wind.

Also, don't you think there's some old timer that could braise that check valve back into a dandy working order? Maybe the pressure is too great, but that crack seems so small to trash the whole part.

Lolita's Garden Your right, I may try repairing it with a chemical weld epoxy. If I had a Tig Welder, could do it that way! You got me thinking about this.....

You've used the word "Toe Swale" since I watched the first video of you laying them out and excavating. I've been around permaculture for several years, now and I am not familiar with that term. Can you please elaborate? Any links you can provide? Thanks.

Tim Flood There is no permaculture term for "Toe Swale". It simply describes that the swale is at the toe of the slope.
