Nice review. Just bought it. How’s it working for you still?

It's all dialed in now. I definitely had to get the customized zone tightened to basically avoid as much water and palms as possible and instead get the pool deck around it. Because reflections at dusk/dawn when the water is flat would set it off maybe once a week or two, the palms once every few days, stuff like that. The human detection algorithm is definitely not as good as ring or Google, but it's local, instantaneous, doesn't depend on the internet, and has and a very loud internal alarm vs something hacked together via phone notifications so I think it's by far the safest best setup imho

I can't figure out how to add the window/door sensors. There's so qr code to scan on either sensor

I don't think SwamCam has window/door sensors. You can integrate sensors into home assistant but I don't have any of those in this set up so I'm not sure I understand the question

Couldn't you do the same thing with ring motion cameras

Yea I looked at Ring as an option since I already have it elsewhere and the "human" algorithm is better. Few reasons off the top of my head I didn't end up with that: 1) Requires cloud so if internet goes down or experiences some latency, you will not get notifications. 2) No actual alarm so if your phone is on silent or a guest is using it, you will not get alerted, whereas this has a very loud indoor and outdoor local alarm. 3) No way to arm or disarm (though I later realized I could use a smart outlet for this type of functionality). 4) Speed - because the algorithm runs locally, it's instant whereas Ring can have a delay of a handful of seconds which doesn't inspire the same confidence. 5) No keypad for guests Those are my thoughts off the top of my head anyway... It's definitely not "Prime Time" ready vs what we expect with Ring or Nest, but I think it's the best pool alarm currently on the market. I'm not married to anything though - what do you think?

What is the brand of fence you have?

Comomy gate, search for B09DVQ5QD6 on Amazon. I will say it did start rusting after 6 months so they replaced it, and then I coated the whole thing with a linolen based rust protectorant which I guess I'll recoat annually. No trouble since then, but I'm not sure if they make a better one that is ideally aluminum (lighter and impossible to rust). In Florida, the humidity is high so rust is a problem in general

Why not get rid of this junk and use a normal camera with home assistant integration? You mentioned inability to get an alarm with ring camera but youre using node js already so might as well integrate a completely custom solution with your own alarm, your own camera of choosing, and if needed a backend AI integration. Even things like shutting off the camera when not armed is extremely easy via home assistant.

Yea Home Assistant actually runs the receptacle and notifications for this. I have more complex automations for other things in the house. But to do anything else I've seen, you would still be relying on some form of local smart camera algorithm that is sensitive enough to ALWAYS go off when you need it but never go off with light artifacts and palm tree movements... And you would still be relying on a rbpi, on a router, switches, access points, and custom software to play alarms to local speakers and smartphone devices. I'm all ears if you have a better solution already worked out and proven - but I think this is the best system for most people because it relies on just two devices for its main functionality: A local camera and a local speaker connected directly and thus not even reliant on the network being up. The software will inevitably get better over time, and it seems inherently more reliable than a custom solution with so many points of failure for something so important...
