Sorry in advance this comment is so long. 1. OMG OMG! I'm so old I remember upgrading to a 56k modem so I could "lower my ping" and get better latency playing Half Life multiplayer over dial-up in the late 90s. So this was the best intro ever for me. 2. Tomahawk has the same glass quality and coatings but a slightly older optical design. A bit more eye relief, a bit less field of view, similar overall optical characteristics. Not quite as tough as Arrowhead and missing some features such as locking turrets and an "off" detent between brightness settings. Basically we took what we learned from Tomahawk and used it as the springboard for Arrowhead. 3. "True 1x" perception can be affected by position of the adjustable ocular lens. Screwed down right all the way clockwise, you'll get some negative magnification. Unscrew it all the way open, you'll get some added magnification. It's closest to "perfect" in the middle of it's travel but everyone's eyes are different, so sometimes people tell us they are getting either + or - mag at 1x, depending on how their eye perceives it. If your camera didn't pick it up, I bet it's because you had the ocular set near the middle of it's travel (because cameras have perfect vision this is usually best for reticle focus when filming through the optic). I've found this to be true in general for adjustable ocular optics, and not just for our stuff. Anyway, we tried our best to make it a true 1x for as many folks as possible. 4. Eyebox on a 1-10x will always be tighter at max magnification than on a 1-6x at max magnification. Basic exit pupil calculation is objective lens diameter divided by magnification, so any 1-6x24 will have a bigger exit pupil at 6x than a 1-10x24 will have at 10x, given the same 24mm objective lens diameter. Doesn't matter how much you spend, you can't beat math. With ANY 1-10x, I would do exactly what you said in the middle of the video-- at 10x I'm only using it supported, on a bipod, sandbags, whatever. If I'm using 10x I'm shooting past 200 yards. If I'm shooting past 200 yards at 10x magnification and I'm standing unsupported, eyebox is only one of my worries at that point and I probably need to find something to lean myself and the rifle up against for stability. I can hit at 300y standing unsupported with Arrowhead at 10x, but mostly just to prove it can be done. It's a LOT of magnification and every breath waggles the reticle around madly when you are unsupported. 5. This is one of my favorite reviews of any of our products ever and just so your audience knows, it was a total surprise to us. I don't even have a valid email address for you. If you want to review anything else that we make, I'm happy to send you an example and will not seek to control anything you say in the review in exchange for your review. I’ve had one for 3 years and never looked back, second guessed my purchase or looked for anything better. Swampfox has great sales and deep discounts for the LE/MIL community. I have not noticed any issue at 1X, though I’m typically using a different rifle/optic at very close range. All in all, your review seems well done and fairly evaluated, though I never noticed anything that indicates the optic was slapped together. While not perfect in every respect, it appears to be more than the sum of its parts. Nicely done.

I have both a Swampfix Arrowhead 1-10 and a Vortex Razor Gen III 1-10. The Arrowhead is surprisingly nice. At 10x, it’s clarity compares favorably against the Razor and a 2.5-10 Vortex Viper PST Gen I. At 1x, however, the nuclear bright illumination and reticle of the Razor makes it near red dot like. The Arrowhead is no match for it at close range. Your labeling of it as a MPVO is perfect. It is usable at 1x, but it’s strength is at medium range. I saw a review of the Athlon Ares ETR 1-10x that came to a similar conclusion about that scope. It has nice clarity and resolution at 10x, but is not as effective at 1x with close targets. The owner said it was more of a medium range optic with the ability to be used at close range when needed.

I would love for swampfox to put out their 1-8x with low profile capped turrets. I have no real need for quickly adjustable turrets as a civilian, and really in this price range how many professionals are going to be using it for duty work? Having them externally adjustable is just a liability. Plus the 1-8 has a larger FOV on 1x and less of that tube effect. The 1-8x is overshadowed by the 1-10x, but the 1-8x is probably the better optic if you plan to use it as an LPVO.

In my opinion, Swampfox is on the verge of a great LPVO. I have the 1-6x and I think that is the sweet spot for a SFP LPVO like this. The problem is, their best reticle is the one you showed in this video and it's only available in the 1-10x. It was designed by Ilya the Dark Lord of Optics himself, and I think those stadia lines are a must and like mil based scopes. So, the 1-6 and 1-8 models are more forgiving, but have inferior reticles. I talked to Mike on a forum and he told me they will be bringing the mil reticle to the lower powered versions possibly this summer. I think that will make the Arrowhead 1-6 the absolute best LPVO in this price range.

I believe they started offering this reticle on the 1 8 in green and red on optics planet which got me real curious and enthusiastic about maybe giving this a try. I like the illumination on the bdc holds which help the eye in the day since it’s not that bright. I want to pick one up and I’m wondering if the red will be alittle better for daytime? Also I love this reticle, but I’m not sure of its use for 1s close range shooting so I’m wondering how was your experience? I would love this for more mid range and longer distance stuff, but i think I need something that operates alittle better at 1X right niw in my life but I would hate to pass up on such a good deal on a mid range long range lpvo but I may have to put off picking one up until I finish my do all build. Hate the fact I have to do that Becuase I love this reticle….but I’m afraid it will not lend itself to 1X shooting squarely. How do you feel about it’s operation at 1X especially in daytime in a year round very sunny environment, would love to hear your thoughts

@@Mithradates_of_Los_Angeles Red vs Green is individual preference and depends on how well you see the color spectrum. I always go red. Just watched a Swampfox video on this optic. They lent two of these to a special forces group to try out at the range. The soldiers decided to take them with them when they were deployed. They didn’t break. And overall we’re pleased with them. The old saying don’t judge a book by its cover holds true. So even thought you question the build quality. I would say you’re wrong. The scope covers are one weak point. And I personally wouldn’t take one into battle. But then again when it came out there wasn’t to many options for a ten power. The soldiers did say they preferred a first focal plane. And that was the main complaint.

At 1x it actually preformed pretty well at the makeshift flat range. Haven't really tried long range yet because of the cost of that range and the limited availability and I'm not making enough to warrant the cost and time (yet). Everything you said is dead accurate. it is a great scope but the only concern I have with it is the warranty not being on par with some of the bigger manufacturers (50,000 rounds by honor system). I've been waiting on your assessment of this optic. I bought one of these (same reticule in red) last year and I was really disappointed. I wasn't expecting miracles in a 500 optic. But the issues mine had were a deal breaker for me, and I wound up returning it to optic planet. At 1x the magnification is VERY noticeable, especially once the diopter was set to my eye. Mine had quite a bit of fish eye as well. I can live with those 2 if that were the only problems I found. However, I found 3 additional items that were a deal breaker for me. #1 Like you noted, the eye box at higher magnifications is borderline unusable in anything except prepared supported positions. And being second focal plane that's where the reticule and turrets are accurate. So, the only time you can use either is when the optic is at its worse!! #2 Mine would sweep from in focus to out of focus to back into focus as you sweep the power up or down.......... BAD QC!! #3 Reticule design, Shame on you C_Does for not mentioning this. But the .5 and 1 mill hash marks are the same in the reticule and they're not delineated. So, IF your able to get behind this optic and want to use a hold, GOOD luck not getting lost in the reticule at any hold less then 5 mills............ And lastly my power ring was dragging/grinding on the tube as you sweep the power. Otherwise, it's a good-looking optic. And there are a lot of things to like about this 1-10. But for me, the usability and functionality issues were a deal breaker.

@@aruthmee Your welcome. I hope my insight added some value to C_Does's review. Personally, I think we're just pushing a 24mm objective too far at 1-10. Especially with a second focal plane reticule. Yes it can be done well, but its bloody expensive to do it. These days I'm getting more and more on board with the MVPO concept with an offset red dot.

@@Venom2U I do agree and appreciate the insight on your situation with it. The 10x multiplier is just too much for any sort of glass. Especially thru a 30mm tube. The Accupower was a great 1-8 because of many reasons. 1 of which was they bumped it up to a 28mm objective. Its not a perfect scope. I wouldnt trust my life to it if it came down to it.

Great review. Currently considering the 1-8 or 1-10. I know your review is solely on the 1-10 model but I would like to know how the eye box compares at 8x vs 10x. Easier to look through and more forgiving at 8x or about the same as 10x?
@CDOES
2 жыл бұрын
As you step down with the multiplier, the easier and more forgiving it becomes. IE a 1-8/2-16 are 8x multipliers. 1-10/2-20 are 10x.

Optics seem nice but it looks to me based on your video that the eyebox field of view of not that wide. The eyebox seems too thick - is that valid? When you compare against Leupold, for example.
@CDOES
2 жыл бұрын
Thick wouldnt be a word id use to describe a eyebox. It would be either narrow or wide. This is narrow due to the magnification range. The Gen III RHD suffered the same fate.

@@CDOES doesn't have to be true 1-10x but looking for an optic that's a do it all but mainly hunting up to 300 yards or so and thought 1-10x would handle that well as some long distance shooting occasionally.

The only 1-10 I’ve looked through with a very forgiving eye box is my Citadel and it’s still tight but that’s a budget Optic. I guess it’s just the nature of an LPVO and they should probably stick to 1-4,6… I’m new to these small Optics. S.F.

Are you planning to review the newer war horse? I first got into LP videos a couple of years ago and this was one of the scopes that I bought. At the time I thought it was fantastic. Eventually I sold it, and now I own the primary arms PLXC 1-8. Now when I look back at swamp Fox products I'm generally left wanting more. They seem like a company that has the ability to do well if they stop copying primary arms and vortex and instead branch out to do their own thing. I remember back when they were first talking about the war horse on the AR-15 forum website. They are planning on doing a 1 to 10, and I believe at the time it was probably due to the popularity of the razor gen 3. Back then it was mentioned that it was probably going to be a pricey optic because they were really striving to make it the best it could be. Well they ended up releasing an optic that is about $600, and that makes me think that it's not going to be that great of a first book of plane LPVO. That is why I would like to see you review it and give your take. Personally from what I've seen online I think it looks like another primary arms rip off with a similar reticle to the ACSS style without the ACSS features. I hope that you would prove me wrong and I also hope that the glass clarity on it ends up being phenomenal.

The reticle is a bit too thick for a second focal plane. Particularly the center dot, it does not offer a fine enough aiming point for more precise shots at distance. Thus hampering its abilities past 300 yards.
