Don Stell quality cost money.... I bought a pair of Vortex Razors for $1,000.00 and thought they were great... then I made the mistake of looking through a pair of Swarovski 10X50.... felt a had just waisted $1,000.00 on my Vortex binos.... lucky I was still within my 30 day return period and ran out and bought the Swarovski’s.... what a pair of Binoculars! Unbelievably clear and crisp... a real treat for the eyes... by once.... cry once!

A few dollars more for a hell of lot of scope. Trust me, the extra money is with it. You will see things you have never seen before.

My second comment is that the pictures, all came out with vinetting at the 4 corners. How would I remove them with the camera attached? or to I have to crop the framing after transferring them into a computer.

Hi Ryan, I just bought a Swarovski STX 30-70X95 Spotting Scope with Straight Eyepiece module STX TLS. Primary, I would like to use it mainly for wildlife and birding photography. I attached a Nikon D700 with TLS APO adapter and did some test shots. I found the result is not what I expected. The Nikon does not display the aperture reading( f nos) The shutter speed stays put at 2000 when set at ASO 6400. All these Swarovski video clips posted say otherwise. I assume they are using those setting on film cameras and not digital/electronic FX format. Please responds.

As a Nikon shooter myself I would not invest so much money into a spotting scot as you said for birding photography. There are a few shootouts on the web between Swarovski Scopes and Canon 500-600mm primes with the lenses made for the cameras always winning. Not just Swarovski be really any spotting scope is not going to be a substitute for a camera lens. Also the narrow field of view that spotting scopes provide attached to a camera is so bad that alone is a reason I would not buy a scope for birding photography AND the lack of auto focus...I don't don't know why people bother at all going down that road with a scope. A Sigma 50-500mm zoom or my $1000 Tamron 200-500mm zoom blows away my Swarovski Scope and these lenses "talk" to the camera and autofocus let alone they are made for the camera sensor. No scope no matter how expensive is not made for the camera sensor!!!

As a Leica user myself, I can't see the logic of comparing a Canon 500-600mm lens or any other lens if you are not putting them into the same price tag or a similar magnification. The Swarovski Telescope is 30 - 70X magnification with a diameter of 95mm objective lens. Even at it's lowest setting of 30x magnification is technically equal to a 1300mm zoom lens at a fraction of the cost of a Canon 1200mm lens. One would say why blowing good money to buy a scope when you can afford to pay for the price a custom make lens. Even professional can't justify this luxury. It's made affordable for the general public who wants to reach out into the world of photography. The quality of satisfaction is the key to use one's skill and knowledge mastering the camera and not using program mode or auto this and auto that for birding and wildlife. I would rather use a professional photographer to take pictures, how auto can you get and its still cheaper to buy the Canon lens.

There seems to be a misunderstanding about this instrument and others like it. As a spotting scope it is in no way designed to be a substitute for a camera lens. As a birder I'm using a scope to look at birds way off in the distance (way beyond anything the largest primes can resolve - I shoot a Nikon D500 with 500mm glass) however I do often want to take a 'record' shot of what I've seen. My camera setup as is provides something like 15 times magnification which is obviously no match for the 70x this setup offers. When I put a camera on the end I'm not looking to take a prize winning picture but simply to record what I've seen; either for later counts or as proof of a rarity etc. As good as Swarovski glass is it is in no way comparable in quality (let alone functionality) of a lens costing >3x the amount. There is no substitute for a big prime whichever system you are into.
