@@EasyFixShaun your bushings were likely long expired before replacement given their condition shown in the video. So let’s assume they went bad before 10 years. They should certainly last longer than that, probably closer to 15. You can suggest they won’t perform the same way but most people aren’t mechanically inclined and the bushings should perform well enough to do it’s job for 15 years.

I would say that if the nuts and bolts can't be fitted without greasing them they aren't clean enough in the first place. The only reason for adding grease to nuts and bolts should be to prevent corrosion unless the manufacturer's instructions say otherwise.

Nonsense, lubed threads are happy threads, protects against galling and corrosion. Oiled threads 90% dry torque spec, greased 70%. No one is going to break these bolts installing with a 3/8 ratchet. Spray a rusty seized fastener with penetrating fluid, it doesnt get into the threads, the corrosion seals the free space between the threads. If a bolt is rusty, torqing with oiled threads will be closer to the proper bolt stretch then torqing dry and rusty. I deal with rusted and seized fasteners almost every day. Torquing swaybar not necessary.

Use of silicone based lube or grease on rubber bushing is actually a good idea. Whereas grease on the bolt thread? What’s the purpose? If trying to prevent corrosion, could use a dab of blue loctite. Also my polyurethane bushings come with grease, does this go inside the bushing, or in the bolts as you showed?
@EasyFixShaun
Жыл бұрын
No worries. The sway bar simply try's to level the suspension side to side. So if the height of the wheels is different sode to side there will be pressure on the sway bar and components. If the height is identical side to side on the sway bar ends-no pressure will be on the bar. The bar is a spring and twists like a torsion bar when there is a difference side to side 😀🔧

No as long as the bar design doesn't support vehicle weight(roughly 99% of vehicles). But you do want to make sure the vehicle suspension is level either way you do it (jacked up or on the ground). Otherwise the bar twists and try's to level the suspension and will make replacement of links or bushings very difficult. Does that make sense? The links and bushings stabilize the ride characteristics of the vehicle at all speeds. They stabilize side to side height differences on a "single axle" only. So rear or front will need separate systems. They don't control actual suspension arc, steering arc, or change alignment angles (caster, camber, toe settings). You may have something else going on other than sway bar links. You could have several issues causing that. Your car will need an inspection somewhere to figure that all out. Sorry for late reply. I hope that helps 🔧

The sway bars job is to level the suspension from side to side linking them together to the frame or uni-body. In the full length video I explain that it's best to do both sides of any given axle at the same time. Basically you want the suspension level wether jacked up or on the ground. Otherwise you will could fight the bars "spring" pressure from side to side. Can make link replacement especially hard. Usually it doesn't effect bushing replacement as much but it can. I have fought before and it is no fun. I only replace those parts when the axle is level up or down on the ground. Saves me a lot of headache. I hope that helps 😃

Great video but you got two things wrong, you definitely do lubricate the bushings and you don’t put that crap on the bolts.

IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ALL DRIED AND CRACKED UP LIKE THAT???
@EasyFixShaun

That is a thin coating of some sort of dry lube or wax from the oem manufacturer. It could be the release agent from forming the part in the mold. I didn't taste it so, I am not certain 😃🔧

Not true, I use silicone grease I have BRAND NEW cars that squeak and we get rid of it with silicone grease. Maybe on your one car this is what it did but its not always the case.

Sorry you are having trouble locating them. The dealership is usually the best parts and the best place to start because of that. Sometimes ebay or amazon works well here. Or rockauto.com. Do you have any of those options in Australia?
@MsWnDrLnD
Жыл бұрын
@Easy Fix oh my gosh. I didn't even think of the dealership! Thanks for the idea,turns out they have 2 left locally in my state :) but they are $40 AUD each which is crazy, but I always heard dealerships are expensive. I have a 2003 Hyundai tiburon 2.0L Hyundai did also give me a part number though, and I found a set of polyurethane ones matching the part number on ebay too! They have a different measurement to what I read my sway bar measures on a forum, but I might take the gamble and hope if the part number is the same they should fit. But if not at least I can source them locally now, thank you so much that was actually a really helpful suggestion 😅 (Edit: I didn't think of the dealership because I was too busy getting frustrated googling/ebaying and amazon-ing 😅)
