Thanks for the tour of Oskarshamn! Oskarshamn is a bit of a mystery to me, because in my childhood I spent a lot of time on the east coast of Småland and I have passed Oskarshamn on the highway so many times but still the town feels very unfamiliar to me. I have taken the ferry from Oskarshamn to Gotland in my childhood and I think I did some sports in Oskarshamn one weekend but otherwise I have no recollection of being in the city centre or anything. It looks quite nice though, the areas of Besväret and Fnyket looks so pittoresque. I am not sure why we generelly enjoy that type of areas more, maybe they are more suitable for the human condition or maybe it is more due to nostaliga, perhaps a combination of both! The little square looks nice, the building with Svenska Handelsbanken looks like a small castle, that is the way a bank should look! The big square is apart from one beautiful hotel and a few other nice buildings just depressing with all those 1960-type shoeboxes. Apparently they tore down an old hotel there in the 60s, I am sure it was a lot nicer building that what they replaced it with. I did not know Axel Munthe was from Oskarshamn. The church is beautiful and the whole open area around the church with that park looks really nice. The town does not seem too crowded with people, at least the day your were there! Finally, it can't be a coincidence that you talk about Queen Victoria at 03:42 and at the same time we see Pizzeria Viktoria in the background. :)

Thanks! It's a really good question why we like those areas. I guess nostalgia plays a big part, I feel like a lot of old Swedish movies and tv-shows have all romanticized the idea of living in a small wooden house (or summer cottage) surrounded by nature and I think these areas matches that as well (even if the nature here is only well grown gardens). The Victoria thing really was a coincidence and I didn't even think about it until you mentioned it now :)

@@MiddleAgedSwedeGoesForAWalk Yeah, it is probably a big portion of nostalgia primarily. I definately agree that the long sofa is more of a bench. The odd thing with that thing is that it was built already in 1867 and still so long. I mean, if a city today would decide to do like an abnormally long bench or sofa, they would probably do it also for the fun of it, it could become a tourist attraction or talking point to profile the city.. But in 1867, did they really consider such things? I have a feeling they did not so just building such a long sofa/bench just for its functionality is kind of funny when you think of it.

@@Erikslust Yeah, I fully agree, 1867 seems very early to build big/weird things just for the publicity or any other reason than to actual function as a bench/sofa.
