The ending of the 1966 Broadway musical "Sweet Charity" has been altered numerous times over the years.
The 1986 Broadway revival (starring Debbie Allen) and its subsequent 1987 national tour (Donna McKechnie) retained the original 1966 ending, with the ever-hopeful Charity meeting up with the CBS "Good Fairy."
This video starts with two versions of this ending, first Donna McKechnie, Ken Land and Celia Tackaberry on the tour, followed by Debbie Allen, Michael Rupert and Tackaberry on Broadway.
After the '86 revival, the Good Fairy mostly disappeared, and subsequent major productions of "Charity" have tended to alter the ending.
The third clip on this video shows Bonnie Langford and Cornell John in the 1998 London revival, which retains most of the original dialogue but eliminates the Good Fairy.
Next is Christina Applegate and Denis O'Hare in the 2006 Broadway revival, with an almost all-new ending.
Finally, Tamzin Outhwaite and Mark Umbers in the 2010 London revival, with an extra twist at the very end.
The ending of the current off-Broadway revival starring Sutton Foster uses much of the original '66 dialogue, but has an all-new finish involving the re-positioning of a song. Consult the DVD of the film version of "Charity" for not one but two more endings.
