Walnut prawns... pecan shrimp... almost exactly the same, just as delicious! Happy Sunday! 💕

This dish reminds me a neighbor who became a very dear friend years ago. He introduced me to dim sum, he would stop by in the evening and say he had made a snack for us to try so we would go and drink tea and eat scallion pancakes (or whatever he had made). I remember them taking us to eat and ordering interesting things I had never tried (like walnut shrimp). So many wonderful memories of a really lovely man!

Those are the absolute best memories. Absolutely and totally. I got married in 1970 and moved to Connecticut. My husband was on submarines and I was from Florida. We rented 1/2 of upper floor of an older home in Norwich... which was about 15 miles from the submarine base in Groton. Out next-door neighbor was a lovely Jewish woman (important to let you know that she was Jewish) who worked for the Norwich newspaper as a reporter. She was a great reporter in her own way but her real specialty was cooking. At least to me anyway. (I was young, what did I know.) So she cooked. And she cooked. And what she introduced us to was beyond description. The only thing I couldn't handle was gefilte fish. Sorry folks. That's disgusting... but as we're talking about being simpler in our thinking and our actions this brought back such memories of Frieda Bruckner. And she grew beautiful beautiful African violets. Her side of the house had the best sunlight for that. That's what she always said. But in her process of teaching me about life, Jewish cooking, and the kindness of others, she really instilled the need for all of us women to get out there and do our part in the world. She worked at a small newspaper as I said, but she was kick butt and took no numbers. And for that I love and miss her...So you get these great memories of the food and the friendship and the education and the whole gestalt. Good deal

I need to learn how to use chopsticks. I find so many other uses for them but I've never used him for eating. BUT, I have found that chopsticks are really good if you get something stuck in a funnel in the garage. Like dirt because you're planting something. And you can take a chopstick and poke it through the hole. I know that is really bad but I thought it would give you a smile ... these look so delicious...

Convection ovens have been around for a long time, but many people seem to be missing the 'C'-word from their vocabulary. I started using my Presto unit near the beginning of the '80s - before they corrected the temperature knob for the 75-degree baking temp-reduction. That unit finally expired after more than 30 years of highly-dependable service. Whoever got beyond the vocab issue popularized this great kitchen tool. My objection to the cutesy, round units is that I can't fit two layer-cake pans inside. Fortunately, KitchenAid and others have not abandoned the toaster-oven style. Since I, too, can't be bothered, I usually leave the temp set at 350F and watch the food's progress until I learn to time that recipe. Thanks for the great recipes, tips, and techniques!

I love my KitchenAid toaster oven for many things but very disappointed in the convection aspect of it. The Philips really does a great job circulating the air to really “fry” up the food.

What I do to make candied pecans is lightly drizzle honey over pecans in a deep and toss until nuts are completely covered. Then I sprinkle the coated nuts with super fine sugar and toss until all the nuts are covered with sugar, because of the honey sugar adheres to the nuts beautifully. Using a large strainer, shake the nuts to to remove the excess sugar. Grease a half sheet cookie pan and spray with non-stick spay. Wipe off the grease with paper towel and place the nuts in the sheet in single layer. Bake the nuts in a 200 degree F pre-heated oven and bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes, What makes the difference between Flo's procedure and mine is that the pecans gets a nice toasted sweet flavor. When done let cool, nuts won't stick together like Flo's. I admit that my process takes a lot of time but the flavor and texture stand out.

Ah... A saltbox woman. So am I. I have one for salt and one for my cracked pepper. And someone asked me how can I tell the difference in the two to not get them confused. Uh, okay.... And I said well, I bought them at Ross. And the one that I use for pepper has one little black wood spot in the wood on the top.. that's why it was not a lot of money. It was five dollars. . And that's how I can tell the difference. And I always set them up left is salt. Right is pepper. So if I ever come into the kitchen drunk I just look for the dot and I know it is pepper. And not the salt. See? Wasn't that easy Peezy. All of that to complement you on your saltboxes. I love those things. Peace.
