I had some reservations posting footage of the osprey-bald eagle battles in the previous episode where technically it chronologically belonged. At the time I didn’t settle on a music track, and I'm still not comfortable with quality of the footage (the "shaky" side effect of handholding an 8 pound camera). Yes, there is also a distinct piece of grit on the sensor for some clips. Nonetheless, I may never witness battles like this again, so two months overdue, here it is. What you’re watching is the combination of three skirmishes assembled as a single fiction. Some may overlook its obvious flaws and see the story I intend, but to others the aforementioned defects may prove too distracting to contribute any merit. You win some, you lose some.
I am glad to say both osprey juveniles have done well and have began exploring for a new home beyond the park. The eagles were the first to leave and I am not sure if they will return next year. We have an unholy number of rabbits and king rails now so come on down if you like seeing them. There are fewer new birds in the park to film in the summer but spiders and insects abound, not to mention the afternoon rain showers with its rainbows and lightning strikes. We are also doing well with deer and turkey. Bulk of footage here was shot with the 800 PF on the Z6 II, the only clip that used the 20mm f1.8 was the first time-lapse.
For the next episode, I am filming with the Z6 III. It is a better camera but I have much to learn, so bear with me.
As always, many thanks to the park rangers. Keeping visitors and animals safe can be challenging. Also thanks to the photographers and visitors who share their stories, experiences and love of wildlife.
--------
For those new to the park, here are some things to consider;
Do not go near the waters edge.
Leave the pets at home (service animals only).
Do not feed or harass the animals. Don't leave behind things they can eat.
Carry your trash to the bins (Have you ever tried reusable water bottles?)
Before you start your car, ask your self, "Am I forgetting something?". We have TONS of sunglasses.
Do not pick up animals without a permit (check with Park Rangers).
No fishing.
Don't let toddlers wander out of your sight! The park has many hazards, not just alligators.
