The Swift Kon-Tiki supplied 100w Truma panel and 100ah Lead Acid Leisure is wholly inadequate for all year round use in the UK. Having taken delivery of this brand new motorhome end of September 2023 and monitoring during Oct/Nov/Dec we decided to upgrade our Solar on the roof, add Lithium and include an Inverter and a. remote management system.
What I find surprising is that such expensive vehicles are sold and then if you put them in storage dealers recommend turning off the onboard Swift Command as this puts a drain on the lead acid leisure battery that cannot be compensated by the inadequate solar installed. So you lose the ability to remote manage through Sergeant , apart from the tracker.
This vlog goes through the thought processes and shows the system and includes data from Swift Command showing the drain on batteries in winter. Having years of experience using horse lorries and coping with dead vehicle batteries , something needed doing. We are not people who leave the vehicle in storage and disconnect batteries. We want to use the Moho all year round.
Having done extensive research, plus friends of our have a very similar setup on their Horse Lorry. We decided to go down the Victron route. Huge problem with Swift Kon-Tiki 784 ( and probably others ) is lack of roof space. We did see another 784 who could only fit 180w as they had aircon.
We wanted full automation , seamless operation both onshore/offshore. No turning switches to control what we wanted when we were on site or not on site. It just needed to work. Also, I wanted to have total control and be able to remotely admin the system. Having a security system on the van that could be on 24hrs , 7 days a week and be accessible via the internet through the onboard mifi would be a big positive - having lithium and solar would mean this would not be a drain on the stored power.
It also needed to power , 240v for approx a week.
Medical devices overnight with no worries.

POC - Oxygen Concentrator
Charge a mobility scooter

Then all the normal stuff you use in a motorhome , hairdryer, microwave, air fryer etc.
Being able to quickly recharge the Lithium via the Fiat Smart Alternator was a requirement in the event of lack of sunshine or shore electric. With using a large capacity lithium , extra B2B/DCtoDC was factored in to the solution.
We engaged both Eco Tree in Nottingham ( Rob ) and BlueFix Energy in Hereford (Luke ) for this work. 3 quotes were obtained. This was the middle costing quote - not cheapest nor dearest. However , the quality was the best. Rob at Eco Tree was fabulous, talking me through all the options and the technology. Luke at BlueFix Energy was also great in giving advice. There was no pressure from either to make a sale.
Our setup:
EcoTree with a 320ah Battery
4 x 140w Victron Solar Panels
MultiPlus II with 3kw Inverter and Charger
2 x B2B ( DC to DC ) Victron 30ah
100/50 Victron MPPT
Shunt
Cerbo GX
Touch 70
Lynx Distribution
Wiring Upgrade to taken the new power requirements.
Integration with Swift Command System
Took around 3 days for the installation to be completed. Really tidy job.
