Chinese Swimmer Fu Yuanhui, who became famous on the media during the Rio Olympics for her exuberant style, recently spoke up her mind in a TV talk show upon her sudden fame in Rio.
With her fame and popularity since the Rio Olympics, Fu said that she is actually not happy being a public figure.
"I became actually very nervous after I knew that I suddenly became famous, because I know in the long term all people that are held up high by public opinions will finally end up falling down on the ground. That's not what I want. I know I'm not a star type, because I'm a too down-to-earth person and there's none of celebrity air in me. So now I hope all this had never happened. That's the best for me. So I want to confess that I didn't understand why I became famous, and people don't know me. I was very satisfied with myself because I knew what I had been through and how difficult a time it was I had been through to reach where I was and even transcended myself. So I was really being satisfied," said Fu.
She also took the responsibility for missing a medal in the 4x100m medley relay when talking about her famous remark of "I had my period" in the post-race interview.
"I've always been such a character. I'm a person with a good sense of responsibility and will face up squarely anything that comes my way. If it's my fault, I'll for sure take the responsibility. I was very unhappy with my performance in the relay, which was slower than in the single event, though I didn't feel very well in my body," said Fu.
Fu also expressed her love for a peaceful life when she talked about her retirement plan.
"I used to think that after I retire I would open an animal shelter, or help people in need -- meaningful things like that. But actually I'm quite at a loss as what I should do after retirement. Most ideally I want to run a farm to raise all kinds of animals, where there is a nice environment and I can grow flowers and plants. That's the life I want most. But the precondition is that I must have achieved what I feel satisfied with in my sport career. Otherwise, I will enter another field to prove myself after retirement, because I believe people should keep up going as long as you're alive. If you do not give up on yourself, there will always be somewhere you can shine," said Fu. More on: www.cctvplus.co...
