Great video. The swiss alpenflage system was truly ahead of its time. The complete outfit included a jacket and bib overalls. Many have wrongly concluded that this was for paratroopers or winter gear. The swiss used this all year round. The system allowed the soldier to carry all his gear without a rucksack while distributing the weight evenly across his body. The red in the camouflage blends in excellent with the red clay ground in Switzerland. That being said it works well in any part of the country that has reddish clay. Every part of the swiss system was well thought out and the quality is top notch. Many have written this camouflage off but that is because they dont understand how it works as a whole.

Great videos, thanks for all the work done! Actually you can find this type of surroundings in the swiss low lands, and small river beds are about identical. Higher altitude woods are less cluttered with small vegetation and above a certain altitude tree species switch to pines so you have longer visual distances and darker backdrops. Woods are no redder in the alps, but indeed Alpenflage was surprisingly effective in breaking shapes, specially at short/mid ranges (10-30m). The dark red color might not be too much of an issue as over distance colours merge and you get an average shade of a tone, and red being in the lower-energy zone of the visual spectre it quits first. BTW there is little chance you will get hold on a original TAZ90 (even here in CH you only find imitations): when swiss government saw Alpenflage all around the TV news during the Balkan wars of the 90's they decided all aging TAZ90 would be incinerated rather than sold as surplus :(

@claudyfocan731

it does work, the German research department developed it as the first universal camouflage for both Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS units. It was issued in limited quantity in 1945. The red and black splotches serve to conceal against first gen. Primitive infrared equipment. The Germans developed this kind of gear for use by infantrymen (Nachtjäger) and vehicles like the Panther V tank. They decided that as they had this gear the enemy would, upon capture of some equipment develop their own. So they designed a camo pattern to conceal against it. The swiss modified it and used it themselves. I have 83 uniform jacket that I wear daily as a lightweight summer jacket, The camo looks funky and gets lots of comments of people who ask about the story of red in a camo pattern and where I found it :)

Thanks for your input, each scene is at different distances ranging from about 20m - 50m so you get an idea of how the pattern looks near and farther from the camera. Most military camouflage patterns are designed to be effective at 100+ meters, it would be pointless for me to film that far away though.
@danmorgan3685
10 жыл бұрын
***** 100 meters REALLY?!?! I'm quit surprised by that. At such distances solid colors like olive drab would work pretty well. Can you think of any patterns that are designed with that 100 meter range in mind? Better still where could I find such information for myself?

10 жыл бұрын
Dan Morgan Here's some information from the Hyperstealth website talking about CADPAT as opposed to a solid OD color. "Canada wore Olive Drab fatigues up until the late 1990’s when their military research showed that there is a 45 percent less chance of being detected from 50-300 meters away with their new CADPAT (Canadian Disruptive Pattern). They also found that the enemy had to be 35% closer to a soldier wearing CADPAT to detect him/her over the soldier wearing a Monotone (Olive Drab) Uniform." www.hyperstealth.com/camo-improvement/
