Man, I identified with so much of what you said! I used primarily neovim for everything and it definitely became: turning neovim into a fully fledged IDE. I would love to know what type of configurations and keymaps you setup for goland. It's hard to find content about having a neovim-like experience in a IDE. If you could maybe share your config, .ideavimrc or any other configurations I would greatly appreciate! thanks for the video and cheers Do you use arrow keys in goland? or only vim motions

Thanks for the comment, glad you liked it. I’m thinking about maybe a video just on this topic, to how I did this since bunch of people asked for it. Since I’m with goland only 10ish days, my config needs a bit polishing, but all in all I’m really happy with it. Regarding arrows - actually my arrows are ctrl+h/j/k/l :) Check my video on Macbook setup, I explain how I do this. But I can tell you it is amazing :)

@@inelpandzic Very interesting! How do you cycle trough files in GoLand without tabs? in neovim I use harpoon and telescope, how do you do it in goland?
@inelpandzic
5 ай бұрын
Hey, I used harpoon with neovim (even with VSCode - yes, there is a harpoon clone plugin there as well), but never got used to it. In Goland I use the same way as I was using with telescope, I open recent files (or even recent edited files) and cycle trough them with ctrl+j/k. Recent files are actually tabs if you think about it. Yes, I configured my arrows system wide to be ctrl+h/j/k/l.

Svaka čast majstore, odlična prezentacija i usporedba.

I am going into full-time Go after a decade of Java using IntelliJ. I'm test driving VSCode with Vim plugin (and Capuccin!) but while it seems fine, I'm already thinking about all the fast refactoring features I'll be missing. A lot of simple things also seem harder than necessary (like go to function). I've thought of moving to Neovim but besides Vim motions I don't really see the appeal in a text-buffer based solution. Your setup seems ideal to me! I like Vim motions because I can be reasonably productive anywhere, but having the power of a fully-featured IDE on top sounds perfect. Would love a followup video on your specific setup!

I see you're going through the editor crisis. I've tried them all and Goland seems to be the best out of all. I sometimes have a midlife crisis where I go vim mode with no syntax highlighting and no LSP but then I remember I'm not a jobless arch linux user and need to get shit done lol.

Hi, good content however I am switching from Goland to Neovim (or/and to Sublime Text). What I do not like about Goland is memory consumption. Simple project and Goland occupies 3 GB. It's crazy - it is my main complaint. (There are some minor issues with color themes and appearance on linux I reported to jetbrains).
@inelpandzic

Yes, if you are generally low on ram, goland is not a good idea probably, neovim si better option. But all of these advanced features must come at some cost (besides the money :) )

I hate intellij, too many bells and whistles. I also in general don't like JetBrains, for example because how they develop kotlin, not making the LSP open-source. My golang code will never be written in a JetBrains IDE. I refuse.
