I've had the pro for about a year now and love it. I actually don't see a need to upgrade to the plus myself. The biggest improvement the Plus has over the Pro is the external antenna to boost WIFI. I actually just have a Net Gear WIFI range extender plugged into the ethernet port on my ASI Air pro. And I can access my imaging setup almost anywhere on my property. One thing I have discovered though. Is that the ASI app tends to work best on IOS rather than Android.

Other great features not covered: - Autofocussing is a blessing with an EAF. - LiveStacking is an absolutely great feature to see astro images being created in real time. - Video mode for planets. I am a happy user of the ASIAIR Pro. I am running the App on an iPad Pro! Works great! I attached a blazingly fast 1TB Samsung T5 SSD on the ASIAIR USB3 port. I overcame the WiFi range issue with putting an old 5GHz router next to the scope and using the Ethernet cable from the ASIAIR to the router. The router creates a fast local network with a long range. As far as I see, the WiFi is the main - but very important - change next to the new internal memory between the Pro and Plus version.

Only major drawback I see is that you need to use ZWO cameras, auto-focusers and filter wheels. Not a problem if you are building from the ground up as ZWO makes great products, but if you already have a setup with, say, a different imaging camera, guide camera and/or focuser, switching to ASIAIR plus means having to invest in other new equipment. Honestly, I was always surprised at how overcomplicated this hobby has been. You have to buy telescope, guide scope, mount, brackets, flattener, filters, main cam, guide cam, polar align cam, USB hub, dew heaters, autofocuser, etc. Then you need about a half dozen applications to make it all work...polar align, planetarium, guiding, photo sequencing, etc. This is getting closer to the way it should be.

I have owned an asi120mm guide camera with matching g. scope for awhile/ haven't enough time to dive into laptop controlled sessions with guiding due to work, clear nights etc... I just bought the asi air plus to start becoming more streamlined and actually guide along with tracking. I still think that at that price point it doesn't make any sense when you can do the same things using exactly the same hardware and without the limitations imposed by ZWO, such as support limited to ZWO cameras and to the plate solving catalogues they've installed. To make it short...just get a Raspberry Pi 4 (that's what's inside the ASIAIR) and put it to work ;-) Final price will be like 4 times less with 4 times more freedom. Yes you'd need to configure it properly but then it will be really yours, free to use the way you prefer.

Do you still you use Asiair? I’m starting to merge into astrophotography and I’m trying to decide between using mini pc with Nina to asair mini. Nina seems very complex to learn before I could start imagining.

I see you are using ZWO cameras and was wondering if it would work with other brands of camera? Has anyone here tried different cameras?

I wish they would make it compatible with more than ZWO, Canon and Nikon cameras. Bring Sony, Fuji, Lumix and Olympus into the mix.

A question for you. I have the original ASIAIR and was dismayed to find that you have to Polar Align and then three star align before you can use the app. Does the ASIAIR Plus have the same behaviour? Thanks.

I bought the asiair plus but I have no idea what I'm doing, how to set it up, I've only been in the game for less than 6 months

I won't be changing anytime soon, Not until they start allowing 3rd party equipment to work with it. I am not changing out my Moonlite focusers for an EAF. Had an EAF once it is was junk on focusing and had too much slop and backlash for my taste.

Funny that using a laptop is considered "old school" when they've only been around amateur astronomy ~20 years. Break out the slide film and gas hypering chamber!

I have watched several videos from various users of this device but I am still confused about the cabling. If I have the ASI Air Plus USB connected to the hand controller of my mount do I still need the cable from the guide scope to mount? The documentation on connections for this thing are weak!

Wow! I understand absolutely no technology I see in this video! Like, I really don't get the hang things off the telescope. All I know is point the telescope, look, take pic with phone. I am confused by any of what I see. Anyone care to explain it to me?

I still have the pro sitting in its box, so really need to put it to use, so no need for the new one! Do like the Eagle setup that Steven Morris is using though.....

Its just a way to regain attention for Asiair, cuz the older ones were just as capable. You know, just like iPhone and stuff

Great Video, I have been thinking about buying this, although, my concern is whether it will take advantage of my Encoders or even if it is compatible with my iOptron GEM28-EC Mount, also, does it work with Explorer Scientific EXOS-2GT PCM-8 Mount, and my Cameras (Canon 5D Mark IV, Nikon D3500, SVBony SV305), I am sure it'll work with my ASI533MC Pro beautifully. But I still like to play with my other cameras too?
