Finally back on it! Today's video is focused on switching to the pinpoint serve, as I hope this will shift the momentum of my progression to become a 4.0, since it brings more comfort to my serve. Like I labeled in the video, during each match I was practicing and focusing on different things depending on the level of the opponent I was facing. Possible continuation of the serve series coming soon as well with this new improvement to my game!
(notes on the bottom are things for me to personally look back on. if you'd like to read and add anything I might have missed, feel free to do so)
Notes on Set 1:
Main focus on this one was just to get my first serve % high to get more used to the stance, didn't have enough plow through on the swing because of this. Coming up to the net is literally so hard for me if I get a volley to my forehand, so I tried to come up a lot to practice and it just didn't click, so coming to the net in matches and in practice will definitely help. One thing I noticed that I need to practice and maintain is putting away the ball, especially when versing players of a lower rating. After watching the footage back, you can see that I lose the intensity of my footwork after the first game, and I become to stuck in the floor and barely get any split steps in. Putting the ball away in general is something I need to focus on, and I think playing more matches will just improve my shot selection more than practice would. I always notice that I play worse when I verse weaker opponents, and it's something that I need to work on as I just play on their level instead of my own. I feel like I also don't think of my serve motion when I play matches, and that's why they become so slow and sloppy since I just am not aware of how I am preparing the serve.
Notes on Set 2:
Gained more intensity as seen in the return stance, split-stepping and jumping too the ball on return rather than being tied to the ground. Footwork seemed to keep me up and around, not perfect but also was not just standing in the court waiting for the ball. Working on keeping pace throughout the rally is definitely something to work on, including shot selection and putting the ball away. I can tell I relied on unforced errors from the opponent, which won me most points rather than my own shots. My service games need immediate improvement since opponents who can consistently return my slowish serves will use these games to break me.
Again, any pointers and advice helps me so feel free to comment below!
