it takes a long time before you're able to "combine" the two sides. Unfortunately I don't have any secret trick to reveal, it's just that after a while, it... clicked. Simple as that. Max tempo I'd say 300 but I'm totally NOT comfortable playing at this speed, it takes a lot of effort and anyway I'll never have to play 300 bpm in my whole drumming career so it doesn't matter, hah. 270-280 is when it starts to get really hard? I can play on demon drives no problem, probably a solid 240-250.

Merci! Thank you! Your video demonstration provides an excellent level of detail about the various aspects of the swivel technique. I have seen it done in a few videos but yours it the best. I had a question about whether or not your ankles are sore or hurt while using this approach to double-bass drumming? Also, do you notice if the method decreases overall fatigue in your playing?
@Lmkt
There's zero pain in the ankles. They don't do a lot really, because the swinging motion comes from above, at the knees. If you push too hard you'll strain your knees and thighs. It's important to always be relaxed when playing: if you start feeling pain, you should stop immediately and try a different, maybe softer, approach. I suppose you could hurt your ankles if you swivelled your toes rather than your heels, because the motion would come from the ankles; but then again I don't see any logical reason to do this, so you should be OK.
@Lmkt
It isn't uncontrollable since, you said it yourself, I have to consciously catch the rebound of the spring. It's not a nervous flinch, it's an entirely controlled motion. "The only time the swivel was a topic was for two or three hits in succession"

knee problems: not that I know of. It never hurts me but I can feel after a good training session that they have worked a lot. Dunno if that makes much sense. Seat height: I always put it at the lowest possible setting (or near lowest depending on the seat) + I sit quite far away from the kit. It's by far the most comfortable position I've found. Bigger beater distance: I've tried but then it's harder for me to control the hits. Beater weights not necessary, just try them and see :)

Great video Nicolas, no doubt the best swivel tutorial yet. I have been working on it and its coming along. I just wanted to ask you do you have a seating preference for this technique ? Do you sit medium high with your legs extending forward somewhat rather than a 90 degree angle. Thanks much for the video !
@Lmkt
Hi dude. I've found that what works best for me is a low seat height - generally I'm just a couple of turns away from the lowest position. I'm more comfortable this way, but then everything is a tad harder to reach, so you have to find the right balance. Also, I sit quite far away from the kit - I'd say 100-110° leg angle. Hope this helps

hello, most people say that when this technique is playing at high speed, loses quite the intensity of the beat on the bass drum, (gets weaker) I really like this technique, I am studying it, the more you know tell me if I can "punch "the bass drum the same way no matter the speed, ie if I can maintain a high speed with the definition of the bass drum? maintain the intensity of the beat?. Thank you!

@jazzie634

THATGUY4474 If you're flexing any part of your legs, you may end up with muscle soreness, but that's essentially the equivalent to a leg workout. Also, you should always be stretching/warming up before you play, it loosens the muscles and prevents cramps. Hope this helps.

+TheBoomerdinho Tu as mal où ?
