I don't like the seating with my back to the window, with fat people squishing me from both sides, and me forced to watch some crotch in front of me. It is bearable when few people travel but horrible when full. Trip on metro can take over an hour and this is quite unpleasant. This design follows the Russian metro style, but there are other designs and number of countries have moved to these. And the justifications that it is to speed up people leaving the train are not correct. It was found number of doors and not having stairs in the carriage does that, in metro carriages where seats are arranged differently no slow down in people leaving is observed. That does not mean the seats are like on a train. No 3 seater seats, only one seat next to door for wider more open area, there are many options which are far more pleasant to travel in.

The sydney metro is a Alstom Metropolis metro train, the concept of a metro train like this is that you can move a lot of people standing up, in a short period of time. Because the passengers are only standing up for a short period of time they shouldn't get too annoyed.

@@SYDTrainsFilms sure, but that concept is fundamentally incompatible with how they’re being utilised in Sydney. Long distances with wider gaps in between stops than in almost any other city that utilises metro. It makes no sense at all.
Transport didn't make the track compatible with double decker trains. No foresight. No concept of standardisation or perhaps linking train lines etc? Typical of Australian governments.
@BigBlueMan118

This is EXACTLY what we need to get away from - this is why we have a network that falls apart when there are minor to moderate delays or incidents. And double deck trains couldn't make it through the curves and gradients the Metro trains can.

@@JoshGoesSlow it is totally impractical. Sydney Metro is not a Metro but is replacing a Double Decker Heavy Rail, which has a lot more seating.
