@thestargateking

poida you’re the one with no clue. Removing the ability of mainline trains to use a rail link will increase journey times for people who use it, and prevent main passenger services from running better services. It would be better for future proofing to allow metro and regular passenger services to use the area, they could work out a way to allow the main line and metro to run on the same track, or build a seperate metro route, sure its more expensive, but it’s better than cutting off the future
@thestargateking
6 жыл бұрын
poida best outcome for the least cost, but with more cost you get a far better outcome. I guarantee there was an option that involved allowing regular trains to still operate. Just remember that in the end it’s the government that authorises and finances these projects, tfNSW can do all the planning they want, won’t matter if they government doesn’t like it or wants to tweak it. There’s no way to say that leaving the ability for non metro services to run on that line would make things worse for passengers without lying. Leaving it in allows for more options, options are what makes the future great, if you remove options by the time you get to the future you may only have one choice left. I may be speaking from textbook knowledge, but that’s because the textbooks teach fundamental truths that can’t be ignored. Replacing the line with metro is the cheap solution, not the best solution.

I find it funny that people are saying RIP to this line. ITS NOT GONE FOREVER, it's coming back (in 6 days!). The only issue is the Bankstown line shouldn't be converted completely, after some thought, that is a bit stupid. Should tunnel below Bankstown and go further south creating new stations. It will spread passengers between the metro and standard trains (like what will happen with epping and Chatswood when the city line is complete) and stop/reduce overcrowding as passengers will have more options of trains into the city. Though, it does save money to convert a line to metro instead of drilling underground and building new stations.
@nicholetheotter1957
5 жыл бұрын
SomeGameplayVids What’s bad is that 10 stations on that part of the Bankstown Line are being affected. Bankstown itself will probably have to close as they have to rebuild the station to serve as a train/metro interchange, while other stations will have to be demolished to be rebuilt with straighter platforms and/or lifts in order to meet the Sydney Metro network’s requirement to have wheelchair access at every station. Sydenham will only just have platforms 1-2 out of action to get the glass doors used for the Sydney Metro network, and still has to keep running its Illawarra Line services. Stations west of Bankstown that are not getting Metro will likely have their train services replaced by buses, on top of the converted part of the line also having to use replacement buses, causing the Bankstown Line as a whole to be out of action during conversion work periods. Customers between Marrickville and Campsie will likely have to take feeder buses to Sydenham and change for Illawarra Line services, while those between Belmore and Bankstown will have to take replacement shuttle buses to some of the Airport/East Hills Line stations, most notably the stations between Padstow and Kingsgrove. Campsie also has buses servicing to Burwood and Hurstville, so they could end up just catching buses there and changing for their citybound train.
@somegameplayvids1720

@@nicholetheotter1957 Please read my comment again. I'm saying that after giving it some thought, the conversion of the Bankstown line is a stupid idea. They should continue the tunnel under the Bankstown line and have the train stations above connected to the metro stations under ground and from Bankstown, continue the tunnel south and extend to Menai, or in that direction. This will result in an increase of trains going into the city, both on the metro network and the sydney trains network and so it will spread passengers across both systems. Doing this will most likely mean the Bankstown line will close for 1-2 months to just upgrade the accessibility, which is better than the length of time they are closing the line to convert to metro. The only issue here is the cost of tunnelling and building the stations, which the government wants to avoid. As a result, upgrading the stations on the Bankstown line to metro standards will save money.

@@sydneytravellervlogs4659 I do have a solution to solve the Bankstown issue. What we can do is demolish Lidcombe Platform 5 and allow T3 trains to run on the T2 tracks to Bankstown and Liverpool via Regents Park, that way, T3 Line commuters can have a direct suburban service to the city. Currently, there is one service on some weekdays which goes from Liverpool to the city via Lidcombe instead of Bankstown, so when Sydenham to Bankstown gets converted to Metro, they can use all suburban services via Lidcombe.
