Oh my gosh, I caught one of these in the holidays, and it was crazy re-living the days when the school runs were super crowded, with most of us pinned up against the doors, and they were absolute sweatboxes! This time, the air conditioning was working great, and the train was empty so it didn't surface up any past-trauma!

I can currently age these videos in and around Central by the size of Atlassian HQ tower being built. I currently have a love-hate relationship with K sets, but I'll be sad when they're gone. Just the smell is super nostalgic.

i used to remember when the K's used to be a newcastle set they operated as a 2 car set back in those days. as soon as after when the H were built & took its place. it allowed the K sets to be allocated over to sydney suburban services which ran on The T2 & T3 line ever since. but with the K sets former old cabs that was once operational had been covered over. with the former crew cab doors that was well sealed over & accessible for the travelling passengers in the carriage.

I remember that! The 2 car sets did the Morisset to Newcastle runs plus a very early morning Central to Newcastle run. Good times!

Hi Phil, thanks for another excellent video. interesting to note that the K Sets entered service in 1981, which was also the year that I moved from Sydney to Melbourne. However, I may have ridden K Sets during early 2000, when we stayed with relatives in Sydney on a holiday trip. We went on quite a number of trains, while there at the time. Anyway, all the very best. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

I didn't know the K sets were still in service. They were a comfy train once they had aircon installed.

once the new intercity trains finally get going this silver beauty will be a thing of the past. while unlike the s sets they have air conditioning they do have a nostalgic smell of the olden days.
