For those of us who do not live anywhere near a concert hall, or couldn't afford the tickets even if there was one, this is a Godsend. What a special gift to be able to sit and listen and watch this magnificent performance . The genius of Beethoven is an eternal blessing. Thanks to all who made this video possible. Oh, and also... that concert hall is absolutely gorgeous. 🎵🎵🎵

Brilliant! The conductor is so fantastic, almost like he wrote the piece himself. I really love it when they focus on filming the whole orchestra, it really helps during these times. People working together to produce beautiful music really lifts the spirits.

I think probably the person filming these should get some credit too as they always seem to be where the action is and it really is much better than some recordings of other symphonies where it's like sitting in front of them so you mostly see the violins and the back of the conductor. It adds something to it so good job.

This is by far my favorite piece of classical music. It is stunning and gorgeous and I wish I could have been in the audience for its very first opening night. Barring that, I wish I could hear it again for the first time. Nothing else sounds like this and it is so powerful that the 4th movement, especially the choral sections always bring me to tears. It is what I hope and imagine Heaven sounds like. Just pure joy and hope and every wonderful feeling of celebration.

every comprehensive review of the 9th will acknowledge that at some point one finds one's self lifted out of one's body and propelled out among the stars.....there was a time when the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra was this good, and when they played the 9th i would stand at the very back of the hall and conduct, weeping copiously throughout the whole thing.

Fantastico 👏👏♥️♥️ The only nitpick I'd give the whole series is I would like to have seen more of the audience reaction at the end of all these works. Otherwise, here's a collection of the greatest symphonies ever written that I can enjoy over and over again. Many many thanks for this act of benevolence 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

The Ninth Symphony is a timeless work. The titanic first movement depicts struggle and despair; the second movement is fiery; the third movement is gorgeous, almost like falling in love for the first time. After an angry beginning, the fourth movement becomes a triumphant hymn to Joy ("Joy! [Freude!] Bright daughter of Elysium! .... All men become brothers, Where your gentle wings abide.") In the slow section, the mood suddenly turns majestic, as Beethoven proclaims the heavenly Father above the stars. He repeats the phrase "Be embraced, you millions! This kiss is for the whole world!" over and over again.

The conductor, de Burgos, doesn't work well for me. His conducting style seems imprecise and somewhat disconnected. He lacks interpretive gestures and guidance. There is no magic in his baton. His age and/or health may be a contributing issue. When the conductor needs a chair to sit down when needed, he generally will lack the energy and vitality to bring out the best in the orchestra. The orchestra does relatively well in spite of the lack of inspiration from the rostrum.
