I’m not currently using the deluge in my live set up but it would be cool to integrate it. Going to try it tonight. Also you have essentially eliminated the lack of ins and outs problem in Deluge. Thanks for the comment! I have tried my same setup with loopy pro and it is wonderful also. You have in loopy pro almost the same audio and midi routing capabilities as AUM so it can replace AUM and have your audio looping be done on Loopy Pro while you sequence midi on the Deluge. In fact I haven't sold the Deluge after discovering Loopy Pro because I have not found anything so intuitive and immediate as the Deluge for my midi looping duties!

As an mixer with a lot of multi channel opportunities could be a big temptation to put to much fx inside 😅 I‘d like to use it for a 4 channel mixer with channel strips for EQs and Comps and for having 3 different reverb rooms for a minimum... and if there is more capacity, than one fx channel. No, I haven't had that problem. Anyways I have changed recently in my template that resampling output is now 5/6 instead of 3/4. Leaving 3/4 free to send it there the main mix plus some sounds I don't want to record or listen in output 1/2. Say you are doing a live improv performance and want to browse some presets of a synth before introducing it in the song, then send its input to output 3/4 and press the switch close to the headphones out in the umc1820. That makes you listen through headphones to ouput3/4. You can find your desired preset and then redirect the synth back to ouput1/2

Hi, thanks for the video, not many like these on youtube. What exactly do you use to connect the Behringer UMC1820 audio interface to the USB hub? Is it just a USB-B connection from the audio interface to USB-A in the hub? And then does the Camera connection kit automatically figure out to get both audio and midi from the hub to itself?? Please explain how the audio and midi actually passes through the hub.
@bastianm5478

I'm asking because I actually already have an iPad, a camera connection kit and a powered USB hub (though I might need another one now, so what's the name of the one you've got?), but I don't have the audio interface. So I hope that the behringer audio interface will be the only larger investment to get going.

I connect the 1820 interface to the usb hub with the provided usb-b to usb-a cable. The USB hub main connector is connected via usb-a to the camera connection kit. The iPad receives then audio and midi data from the 1820 interface. The ipad also receives midi from the other usb devices (launchcontrol, launchkey, etc) that are also connected to the USB hub. The usb hub I use is this one www.amazon.es/TP-Link-UH700-Hub-puertos-negro/dp/B00LI4O9EA/ It needs to be a powered one (with its one power supply) to avoid problems. This hub has 7 ports and 2 extra charging-only ports. I connect an ipad lightning charging cable to one of these two and to the camera connection kit so the ipad is being charged at the same time. Hope this solves your question

@@bastianm5478 for getting away of the computer. I know I can completely replace the iPad with a computer in this setup But I want to keep things self-contained and as DAWless as possible. AUM is an app that cannot be considered a DAW, it is just a mixer to route audio and midi. I like to approach music more as a fun live improv than placing tracks on a DAW. For example I have never used the Arranger View of the Deluge yet. They usually talk about "choice paralysis" when using a computer with trillions of VSTs. When you use hardware gear you have less options, so you focus on just making music with what you have. The iPad, while being almost like a computer, has less choices and integrates better into this hardware-only paradigm. Well, at least it makes sense for me. (And there are other advantages not mentioned, like plugins several orders of magnitude cheaper than their counterparts in PC)

I checked the sound craft specs but it doesn't seem to have usb audio. Neither the iconnectmidi I think. You need to add a usb audio interface there. Check the other video (part 2 of the tutorial) I posted a few days ago. There is a chapter called MIDI routing. There I explain that with the LaunchKey it is as easy as connecting deluge midi out to LaunchKey midi in, within the AUM midi matrix. LAUNCHKEY will then receive clock and sync ARP tempo. If what you have is a LaunchKey Miki then the thing is different. For the Mini version, if you send all midi from deluge to LaunchKey it will behave weird (like a midi loop), so when I used to have the LaunchKey Mini I routed ONLY clock from deluge to LK using MidiFlow app which allows you to setup filtering out notes and CC and let only the clock pass

Love this setup! I've been trying to replicate it, but I've run into some trouble. I have my synths, the 1820 and AUM installed and I can use FX from my iPad Pro on my synths now, which is great. I've bought a 2x mono to 1x stereo cable to connect output 3+4 from the 1820 to my deluge, but the output seems to be much too low. I can only hear it if I boost the sound in AUM, but then the audio gets distorted. Apart from this problem, everything seems to work fine. When I connect the headphone output to the Deluge line in, the volume is perfect, but I would love to connect it through output 3+4. Am I missing something here? I'm wondering if you encountered something like this and if you know what the fix is? Any settings on the deluge? Or on the 1820?
@MonitusMusic
2 жыл бұрын
Several things to check: - iPad volume level (the 1820 interface seems to depend on the iPad volume you have set). Click the volume buttons on the iPad to raise it to 100% - AUM input gain: open AUM settings and change input gain to 100%. Suddenly all your inputs get a super volume boost. The downside is the noise is also increased so you need to have a no-noise setup. I had to be very careful with having quality cables, isolated usb power sources, using usb midi only on midi controllers and sticking to old midi DIN cables for synths. I have almost all my gain knobs of the 1820 set to minimum thanks to this, and only raise it a quarter turn for the Typhon which is lower in volume than others. - I have checked my AUM template and I have the AUM channel that is receiving from Bus B and sending yo outputs 3+4 with the volume fader set to +6db
@MonitusMusic
2 жыл бұрын
Well I just re-checked and I have the resampling bus set to -2.6dB volume and outputting to outputs 5+6. This is because having outputs 3+4 free is useful for another great feature of the 1820, which is that it has a switch button to change the headphones to be listening to main output (1+2) or 3+4. That way you can, in a live situation, prepare a sequence listening to it through output 3+4 which is not sent to the audience yet, and then redirect it to output 1+2 in AUM when the sequence is ready to be heard. But that is something for another tutorial..
@martijnoverman6478

@@MonitusMusic Thank you for the lightning-quick reaction! Your comments were spot on. I had the iPad volume too low (didn't expect this would matter), and the AUM input gain to 100% helped a lot. Volume is definitely not a problem anymore. I still need to balance all the instruments, but I'll leave that for tomorrow. Very excited about this setup. Now I can easily add guitar via Bias fx app and record multiple clips per synth without much effort. Your advice for using output 3+4 in live settings is also very smart! I'll keep it in mind. Again thanks for the video and the advice.
@MonitusMusic
2 жыл бұрын
@@martijnoverman6478 yeah the outputs 3+4 thing doesn't need you to connect anything to the physical outputs. Just have a bus send in the master channel just before the output to 1+2, to also send a "copy" of the final audio to output 3+4 also. Then you can listen to your mix with either outputs, and click the 1820 headphone switch button to listen to 3+4 and add another channel strip in AUM which sends to 3+4 so only you listen to it, and when ready change it to output to bus A (where all you other channels go) to make your audience listen to it, maybe doing a fade in with the volume fader. Really glad my comments helped solve your issue

Concerning Step Sequencing on the Deluge with an external Keyboad, like the launchkey: Am I able to press a step on the deluge and enter a chord on the launchkey? Currently this is not possible. The deluge doesn't allow to enter chords per step. But you can program the chord in the Deluge grid easily
@MonitusMusic

I guess that in an elektron box where you have one button for a step and you need to enter the notes manually turning knobs it makes sense to have a shorcut like that to enter notes, but in the Deluge, having it like a piano roll screen where you can input as many notes as you like in a grid view, that feature doesn't make much sense

@@realSeanMcMahon by latency you mean audio is somewhat delayed? You can change in AUM settings the buffer size. 64 samples is considered suitable for live vocals (as said by Beardyman) but that implies that the CPU has more work and you could start getting audio crackles. If that happen you either have to use less FX or bump tracks to loops in your Deluge. Or try increasing to 128 samples. 128 samples is fine for me, just a few milliseconds latency. More than that (256 samples and above) you ear will notice the latency. Besides there are some FX plugins that introduce more latency. Some of them have Zero Latency mode (like for example the Fabfilter ProQ3, it has a setting inside the app). You can tap the DSP meter of AUM to check which plugins are adding extra latency

@MonitusMusic
3 жыл бұрын
I have been reading the manual of the studio live. It seems that, as it happened to me with a Yamaha AG03 usb mixer, the output you send to outputs 1/2 os the usb interface inside AUM are summed to the dry inputs of the mixer, so it is not 100% wet outputs as it happens with usb audio interfaces. So what you hear in the monitor outputs of your mixer is not the audio from the final mix in AUM sent to outputs 1/2, but the mix of the original inputs and what is sent by the iPad. What I did to solve that was to connect to the iPad headphone jack port an stereo headphones (with no mic) that is, a TRS cable, (not TRRS like the EarPods for example). That way the output is overridden and you get in AUM the input channels on the mixer but the output goes to your headphones connected to the iPad. The bad thing is that you don't have extra outputs like this ... In the documentation of the Studio live it also says that Outputs 3/4 are "hardwired" to inputs 7/8 of the mixer so when you engage digital returns (some button on the mixer) you override the analog devices that may be connected to those inputs 7/8 ... Having dealt with these kind of inflexibility when I had usb mixers in the past is what led me to replace them with a usb audio interface which offered all the flexibility of routings and they have a knob to make the headphones and monitors connected to them to just output the sound coming from the usb (iPad) (that is, totally wet) and no sound from the analog inputs, leaving the job of mixing everything to the iPad (AUM) and allowing you to connect headphones and monitors directly to the interface (as I said, before with usb mixers I had to connect headphones directly to the iPad to be able to enjoy just the mix done within AUM). Sad to hear that you are not happy with the presonus.. :(
