Most of Syosaku’s kitchen knives are handcrafted by artisans from Sakai, a port city in Japan. Sakai has a centuries-long history of creating knives originating from forging samurai swords. Each process of creating the knives is divided among specialists and small producers. These processes are forging the metal, creating the handles, combining the knives, and finishing them. Depending on the knife, it can take up to six months for the artisans to fully craft a finished product.
Some of our knives are produced in another historical samurai-based area in Japan. This knife-producing area is Tsubame-Sanjo. Each knife is handcrafted, sharpened, and finished one by one by master artisans.
All Syosaku knives are ready-to-use out of the box with ruthless sharpness. Chefs and home cooks appreciate their incredible sharpness, stunning craftsmanship, and precision.
Much like the Urushi glass plates, each knife can be custom-ordered to cater to the consumer’s preference. They vary in different wooden handles and handedness, and each knife can be engraved with a name in Japanese characters. Syosaku makes kitchen knives that can be used by professional chefs and home cooks. Our knives are very strong and use a variety of ten-to-fifteen different types of metals, depending on the model.
