So funny how much Sysco has changed over the years. I went to work there in 1984, did 32 years, retired at 55 about 8 years ago. Back in those days they would run an ad for drivers, collect applications for two or three days, it wasn't unusual to do an interview the day after and get hired right on the spot. I got hired two days after I applied, and started work the following day. No orientation at all, you were just basically handed an employee handbook. I was trained for two days, cut loose on my own the third. Hardly anyone was trained an entire week unless they were slow learners. They didn't slam dunk you with demanding loads for another week or so in most cases. Ha, but some of my loads were pretty damn demanding within mere days. Even with new drivers, just as they do current drivers, they kind of judged what sort of load you were capable of and routed you accordingly. By the way, back in those days, the groceries were loaded on the floor. OMG, the trucks were so damn much easier to work in those days!! I worked 15 years before they started putting loads on pallets. Good Lord we ALL hated that shit. Slowed us down like crazy!!

Man I left Sysco on Friday, my supervisor was no help, 2 days out of my 4 day work week I was picking up pallets because for some reason the warehouse is having a shortage on straps! Crazy to hear that. I was in the domicile yards where I had no help, it was only 2 of us out here. I would go south and my coworker would go north. There would be days where nothing was strapped and our roads are sharp curves and shitty roads. My average stops were 14-18 stops to my last day at 22 stops. My last day the sent out a trailer with a broken door that wouldn’t close and my supervisor’s advice was to drive with that door open from town to town. The weather over here has been stormy ass weather. I’m out in Oregon and idk how other states work. But best luck for everyone. I always ran my 14 hrs to the last minutes and times I would go past it. But like this video says check out other spots and see if the grass is greener on the other side. Best of luck with looking at other spots man and good content.

Foodservice is a young man's job and a very cut throat business. The money is very hard earned and not appreciated in the ways that the company should. The customers are the most appreciative and feed and help you most times. I don't like being paid by the mile, load or piece. Drivers should get paid hourly with overtime after 8 hours especially with how much scrutinized these companies be with driver facing cameras, erroneous time demands and draconian company policies. I did class A CDL work for 25 years and done mostly everything and to me foodservice is the worst next to freight and fuel hauling, chemical and hazardous waste hauling pays better but is very risky and hard to get, equipment and container hauling is a great job and most pay well and the job is easier on your body, OTR is not for me and I never cared to do it. I served 8 years as a 88 mike in the Army and seen most of the country anyways. So if your a decent driver I'd suggest getting into big rigging equipment hauling or sand and gravel/coal hauling. Great pay and easier on the body 🤙🏽🇺🇲
