Hello! THe order of a system is directly equal to the number of states required to describe it. So if you can completely describe the system dynamics using a minimum of n states, then the system has order n. In a circuits example, we call the voltage across a capacitor and the current through an inductor as states. Therefore, the number of states equals the number of capacitors and inductors in the circuit.
