T-33 crash site. We visited it on the day after Memorial Day. The trail was pretty intense at times. My Jeep is a 2021 JL Unlimited Rubicon with stock suspension and tires. Barely rubbed in a few spots and on one area we had to stack rocks. Overall, it was a really fun day though.
On June 27th, 1965, United States Air Force Major Currie and 1st Lieutenant Darby veered from their flight path in a Lockheed Martin T-33 trainer jet and crashed into the mountainside in the Arapahoe National Forest. Both crew members lost their lives. Much of the plane is scattered about the mountainside, serving as a memorial for them. This offroad trail takes you within walking distance of the somber scene also known as "The Bunce School Road Plane Crash." Close to Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins, Colorado, this more difficult 4WD trail is popular to run in combination with Bunce School Road, Ironclads and Middle St. Vrain.
Trail Difficulty and Assessment:
7/10 in some areas due to the ground clearance needed and very narrow parts of the trail in between trees. You are literally threading the needle in some spots. Unless you are an experienced off-roader and have at least a stock Jeep Rubicon on 33’s or the equivalent of I do not recommend this trail unless you want severe trail damage in a few areas.
