Amazing review of an exemplary piece of audio electronic! Loved the discussion of the versatility of this unit, especially on filters and tone controls! However, simply due to how much the HA 200 offers, I understand but still saddened of no time spent talking about the marvellous VU meters, which are configurable to show output V, temperature, sample rate, and illumination in various RGB colours! Also, the HA 200 HDMI board is an additional cost, though very affordable considering the cost of the base unit (£200!). Just an FYI, there are two non-identical sibling products that serve two types of systems (ish): - T+A HA200: Headphones primarily (speakers via front XLR to a splitter, as you mentioned in your review). HDMI Board optional - T+A DAC 200: Stereo speakers (and, to a lesser degree, headphones). HDMI Board optional The former was the first in a (retrospective) 200 series product line, and the latter was the second in said series, made as a direct response to those who wanted the double DAC engine and technology of the HA200 but designed for speakers over headphones. The DAC 200 does have a competent balanced headphone section, but it is not as focused as its older HA200 sibling. So, for those who prioritise headphones or speakers, you can choose between the HA200 or DAC 200 respectively! As a bonus, and some reviewers discussed, the DSD engine of both HA 200 and DAC 200 are astounding compared to almost any product anywhere near this cost and above, and very exciting for those who enjoy upsampling using an external device (HQPlayer on a computer). Lastly, both HA 200 and DAC 200 have no streaming component, but you can add your own, or buy the partnering T+A MP200 streaming transport, equipped with proprietary ethernet RJ45 connections between the two units! Once again, brilliant review, and really glad that T+A is getting more coverage 🎶🔊

I love the design. Especially the VU meters. The inputs are great. But for 10k$ it definitely misses balanced analog outputs in order to double function as a fantastic pre-amp. I don’t care for all the setting possibilities, they just remind me how relative “high end” sound is.

Well, that's why T+A created a sibling product: the T+A DAC 200! That's specifically designed for stereo speaker setups, and has a (deritive of the HA 200) balanced headphone output as a bonus! So, choice is yours for what system you want to build!

The real question is, is it better in a blind test than a $200 headphone amp or a modern computer?
