The review on which I've given up waiting for... and it's here! With a surprising outcome at that... I guess I need to listen to them now... but based on this review the 5909 seems to have the advantage... especially with LDAC - which is not what I get from the head-fi threads, but there the preferences and music selection is opaque. I think I will wait for the next versions of these to see if they will catch up with wired+amplified closed headphones (for office desktop). For traveling, almost anything is fine, the XM5 or PX8 etc, since music is lost in noise anyway.

Yes listen for yourself then you'll get the answers that you can judge the headphones on. I keep hearing the sentence "I'll wait for the next", I think you'll be waiting forever. I predict bluetooth ANC will never catch up with wired/ amplified closed just like closed will never match open or semi open, remember bluetooth headphones are a compromise. The more expensive and better they get, the wider their wired vs bluetooth performance gets My advice is enjoy the best now. .. or wait & wait & wait & wait

I am lucky to have top notch wired headphone systems, and in comparison even the best closed wired headphones are already compromises. What I am looking in Bluetooth headphones is to maintain some kind of enjoyable musical presentation, even if not on par with wired, or not even the same kind. It seems the 5909 is such a headphone for you, and I totally understand it - except the treble is often a problem for me. Even the Bathys and PX8 (+EQ) have enjoyable presentations, even if with more and different compromises than the 5909. The T+A S-T's described voice performance and transparency mode are a very good start, and if the wired listening restores some magic, it's probably an acceptable deal. But I don't like flat and boring sounding headphones, and LDAC support is a strong preference.

What amp Dac were you using when listening to Solitaie t wired? Great review thanks!
Curious that you seem to prefer the 5909 sound, esp. on vocals. Many other reviewers seem to prefer the Solitaire Ts. I'm guessing that the 5909s are a bit brighter (relatively) which could give a sense of additional detail but others might prefer the warmer sound of the Solitaire Ts. So it could be purely personal preference. Also it may require listening over a period of time for the brain to adjust to the difference in tonality. Has your opinion on them changed at all? Also it sounds like you didn't have a powerful enough amp to test them wired?

@@opaz. Thanks for the response. I'm reading elsewhere that some people have a preference to the STs than the iO-12s which is curious, though both seem to be good options. I think it's largely a matter of preference. One benefit of the STs is the more compact size more suitable for travel though I'm not sure if the smaller ear cups would annoy me. I have a contact allergy to chromate in most leather so I suppose the STs are the only suitable option anyway. I can play with EQ if I find the mids are too forward. I saw a measurement that seems to show a slight bump in the upper mids. I just have to decide if it's worth opting for a wired headphone for portable use. The Dan Clark headphones interest me but they require a fairly powerful amp that I'll have to carry with me alongside the wires and wont come with the benefit of ANC.

Two years ago I stated that the 5909 outperformed the Bathys and I was told immediately after in the comments that many other reviewers prefer the Bathys. My opinion still has not changed, the Bathys are not strong enough performers I have since tested the ML & T's with my HA200. Even without an amp, the exaggerated very forward vocals on the T’s do not sound natural. My opinion there has not changed. As for the brain needing time to adjust to various tonalities, the very first time I listened to the iO-12, I knew immediately the game completely changed

Hey Opaz how would you compare the sound quality of these two wired vs wired? Does one stand out as noticeably better than the other?

Wired the 5909 performs much better with a noticeable difference.

@@opaz. That's the problem, I have to order them, I can't listen to them anywhere here, maybe the 5909 but not the T+A solitaire... I have the Dali io-12. Beoplay H95 and B&W Px8 and focal bathys have all been tried and all returned, the stores don't like that

Slick packaging always makes me leery of the product's quality. A truly good product doesn't need slick packaging. It needs adequate, functional packaging. A crappy company can spend a lot of money on packaging and marketing a poor product. The slick packaging won't make the product any better. Consumers are too easily taken and misled by slick packaging because it looks good and makes them feel like they're getting a present. Get over it. I'll take functional packaging and a great product any day.
