Dear Allen, I think you misunderstand the result of civil voting. Ms. Tsai don't against the result of civil voting. In contrast, she follow the result to make a special law to legalize same sex marriage. Because the result is : most people agree same sex marriage be legal by a special law instead of civil law.

@@lifeintaiwan That's okay, Allen. I think it's a nice communication in this video. Although most people against to modify civil law, it still a good start to legalize same sex marriage by a special law. BTW, I want to recommend you a beautiful song "womxnly" by Jolin Tsai. It's talking about a boy who have been bullyed in junior high school because of across gender problem. The lyrics is so warm and it have English subtitles.

I am gay and I've always been in love with Taiwan, and because of that I have followed the LGBTQ+ topic since 2016 and I I broke into tears as soon as I got the news of Taiwan finally accepting marriage equality. I have never been there and I hope I can move soon, but I already feel Taiwan as my own home, and I'm so proud of everyone that chose freedom. I do not live in a place where same-sax marriage is legal, so I will be much more pleased to try and get the Taiwanese citizenship as soon as I can🇹🇼❤️

A "gay" or a "lesbian" can't help himself or herself falling in love with man or woman, just naturally like others "normal" people to love a woman or a man. There is nothing unusual, people should try to understand what they think and how they feel.

Allan, I am still more than confused. I had thought it was already legal before the referendum? We in Australia actually referred to Taiwan as an example country (just like you just did by including our flag) in the lead up to our bullshit redundant referendum. I was actually in Taiwan the weekend before the referendum and I thought the (multiple?) questions were ridiculous! Then when I heard the results, I was really shocked! I am going to have to re-watch this a few times to try to comprehend more, but I am curious about the laws prior to the referendum that the referendum appeared to be going to reverse. Regardless, great result and love Tsai Ying Wen. I wrote a letter to one of the English rags 25 years ago complaining of sexual discrimination in Taiwan and finished the Letter with the line “I look forward to the day I see a female President of The Republic of China, though I shan’t hold my breath!” The letter got published and I saw it in my lifetime! Also very proud to have called Taiwan home (it’s still my second home) for 9+ years and I do hope to return.
