TJ Boyle is an Assistant Professor of Biology who understands the value of research in the field. Dr. Boyle's work over the past two decades identifying and cataloguing the effects of a newly-discovered invasive species of crab has taken him all the way from his post-graduate student work to a faculty position at McMurry, teaching his methods to new Biology majors.
We followed Dr. Boyle and two of his research students to Hubbard Creek Reservoir north of Abilene, to see what it's like to catch a few dozen of these crabs. This visit was a foundational piece of research that followed with the two students examining different properties of the crab in a lab setting.
