That's not something TTTE has ever done or ever will. As spooky as the series gets, it's pretty clear that ghosts aren't real in the TTTE universe. Every ghost or monster story has a rational explanation: Percy and Rusty's ghost stories are made up, Henry was frightened by Old Bailey, the smelters ghost engines encounters are always just chains or Arry and Bert, the Castle Loch Monster is actually a bunch of seals, and so on. Of course, nothing's stopping us fans from making their own reimaginings or original ghost stories (many of which I really like), but the main book and TV series haave never seriously entertained the idea that ghosts might be real.

Now my opinion on the second part of your list: 9. Without a doubt one of the best Edward episodes in the series' history. I always felt sorry for Edward when the other engines mocked him for being "old and unreliable" (especially you, Gordon) and he loves to show that age is not a barrier to being a "really useful engine" since he proves to still be a hard worker. Edward managing to get his train delivered despite his running late and the incident with his siderods shows that underneath that friendly face, Edward is a real determinator and that's why I praise him as a character. 8. I never seemed to remember watching this one either, but you have to admit it was funny seeing the Fat Controller feel very determined to get to his wife's party despite all the slapstick that plagued him. It shows that he's more than just boss of his railway, but a man who truly cares about his family. 7. And we get to the episode that started it all as far as spooky Thomas & Friends episodes go. Percy looked so spooky in all that lime, on top of Thomas being told Percy had "died" was frightening but it's all part of why this episode was good. Heck, seeing that illustration from the Railway Series of Percy in his "ghostly" appearance at 5:27 also gave me chills. Great episode. 6. And here's Bill & Ben's debut, and with a comedic episode at that. The interactions between the twins and BoCo are always great with humour, and seeing those hilarious facial reactions on BoCo makes it even more enjoyable for those fans who love the comedic episodes. 5. This was one of the first episodes I ever watched, so you could imagine it was no surprise I developed a soft spot for Henry. I agree with all your points in that this episode nailed scenery, a simple plot that takes a dark turn, and of course that variant of Henry's theme made The Flying Kipper such an iconic episode. And then there's of course Henry's epic crash with the parked goods train, which used to give me chills as a kid. This episode established the Henry we know today - a better, stronger and happier engine, and that this rebuild for him was a well deserved happy ending. The episode was a true day in the limelight for Henry, and significant character development for him. It's why this is still one of the most praised episodes of the entire series to this day. 4. This episode was great for having Douglas in the main role without being overshadowed by his own twin, and as we know, Douglas had come close to being scrapped so you could imagine how his feelings were, coupled by his heroism when he saved Oliver. I can definitely understand all your opinions on why you love Oliver, and had it not been for Douglas we wouldn't have had Oliver become the engine he is now. 3. I surely remember this episode scaring me as a kid, especially since I once had a Thomas & Friends VHS called "Spooks And Surprises". This was one of three episodes from your list featured on this VHS (alongside Rusty And The Boulder and Haunted Henry) so it definitely has a place in my childhood. The bridge scenes, coupled with the mist and the fate of that engine who fell off were all chilling scenes. Duncan's face where he had his eyes shut was also funny to watch. Season 5 knew what it was doing when it came to dark themes for episode plots. 2. Another pair of episodes I used to watch on an old VHS I had, and a great introduction to the Narrow Gauge Railway. Duke's interaction with Stuart and Falcon (aka Peter Sam and Sir Handel) showed that while the other two sometimes picked on Duke for being old, they secretly all cared for each other. The moment where the men discover Duke in the buried shed was a heartwarming moment in itself. And like you said, hopefully Andrew Brenner will one day bring back Duke since it had been over 20 years since his last proper appearance. 1. Given Henry is your fave character, it was no surprise seeing a focus episode of his at the top. This used to scare me to nightmares as a kid, but it's a very well-done episode as far as spooky episodes go. The plot starts off with Edward telling Henry an old myth about an owl's hooting bringing mist and ghosts, and Henry scoffs off at it. Then when Henry travels down the old line, he sees the mist and all the horror unfolding right in front of him and he feels terrified, presented in a way that looks like something out of a horror movie. The next night he is taking a goods train and the trucks even got scared, especially with the gates closing and the signal turning red by themselves, ending with the trucks crashing into a ravine. I often felt Old Bailey reminded me of George Carlin as well for some reason. Still, this was one of the best Henry-focused episodes of the series. I know you have a point with the fandom having a controversial opinion on Henry's personality in the Hit Entertainment era of the show (aka depicting him as a coward) and while I don't have an issue with it since it does make him feel relatable to the target audience, it can still irritate me at times. Thankfully Season 20 has toned that cowardly persona down (he did get two good episodes of that season in Henry Gets The Express and Henry In The Dark, both extremely funny episodes) so I hope Andrew Brenner can keep that up for the next season.

I may be late but one of the episodes that haunted or scared me the most when I was a kid was the Scaredy Engines episode, it was one of the first scary episodes I watched of Thomas that was found on the Thomas' Halloween and more DVD, I know the plot was a bit basic but how they depicted the insides of the Smelters yard was chilling! The claw, the distorting of hung up pieces of scrap, the sound effects of short circuits, the red glowing atmosphere, the fog, the eeriness of the music in the background and what used to scare me the most was the chains hanging from the ceiling and how when Thomas backed into them they just dangled along his boiler and as Alec Baldwin put it "like ghostly fingers" along with that ghastly whistle that went off in the end, it used to make me jump! And the ghost engine in the beginning, I know now that it's just one of Donald or Douglas' model without a tender, but how they just whizzed past especially in that setting of the Smelters yard without seeing it's face or hearing all of its backstory used to send chills down my spine, the atmosphere was what made that story stick with me for a while. And another, not exactly my favorite but it was on the same DVD, was Percy and the Naughty Gnomes or Percy and the Haunted Mine, yeah I wouldn't necessarily say the episode itself was scary, the plot was yet again still kinda basic, Percy gets told that gnomes are creatures that play nasty tricks on people and make bad things happen which of course makes him worry when he has to take a load of them to a station during the night, he does so and I think they used the same set from Haunted Henry for this since a lot of the trees look the same along with the fog that creates a creepy atmosphere, I didn't really care for it when I was little but the one thing that made me remember it was the terrifying shot of a building collapsing along with the mine shaft and how it cut to the scene of the gnomes spilling out of the trucks staring at poor Percy, it really made me feel the horror that was going through his head at the sight even though the gnomes spilling out after the building collapsed was just pure coincidence, it petrified me as a kid, still does. And last but not least was the episode from when Hit entertainment took over, was Percy's Scary Tale or Scaredy, Scaredy, now I know this was a more recent episode which wasn't properly written since the plot was all over the place, it's overall not one of my favorites either, but the scene where Max and Monty were driving in the woods through the fog, with the dead trees and the owl, just made the atmosphere creepy especially since this took place after Kelly told that story about a one eyed truck who stole other road vehicles lamps to replace the one stolen from him, even though it was never, seen the glowing eye that appeared through the fog out of nowhere scared me a little and just had me on edge, it wasn't necessarily scary but it was chilling which did leave me a faint memory of Max and Monty racing away from the forest as the glowing eye followed, screaming "it's the one eyed truck!"

Haunted Henry was powerful enough to inspire poetry out of me. I'm willing to put money that you'd be one of the few people who'd appreciate the similarities and how I've woven it all together. I love Henry the most as well. his original trilogy (Coal, Kipper, Sneezes) was one of my favorites growing up, because I could relate a lot to it. And many of the choices here are ones I also think are pretty awesome. And hindsight to my comment on the previous video, you've given me some trivia, with Henry being the first onscreen crash. Although the hand helping Henry crash is a "cannot unsee" (Sorry).

My favorite episode is probably any one where Emily is at the center. Why? I have a soft spot for the Stirling Single, but if I had to pick one, it would be No Snow For Thomas, because it balances Thomas and Emily's opinions perfectly. It shows there is a positive side for every negative one!

I don't know _how_ this randomly ended up in my recommended list, but I'm glad it did, for 1 particular reason. I had a **very vague** recollection of the episode "Escape" from my childhood...I only remember seeing it once, but I absolutely LOVED it! But since I only saw it once, and when I was very young, I didn't remember it very well, and was seriously wondering if it was just a figment of my imagination. Here I am, over 15 years later...I am very glad to see that it is indeed a real episode.

Haunted Henry is quite good, I even love Shunter's rendition. In his version not only was the ghost real, Kirk Ronans debated if it even moved on after the station was demolished. Sir Topham Hatt asserts the ghost is not welcome on his railway no matter the case.

In my opinion, I think that "Lady Hatt's Birthday Party" is the funniest episode of the series ever, especially considering Alec Baldwin's characterization of Lady Hatt. And I am in full agreement with you, Baldwin did a pretty good job at characterizing Bill and Ben in the fifth season the way George Carlin did. I also think that Ringo Starr is a great narrator, in that he can go action-movie style dramatic when necessary.

For me, Busy Going Backwards is the funniest episode. From the moment Toad and his train cut loose until it gets stopped in the pond, I laughed the entire time! At Toad, the conductor that abandoned train, Gordon, James, the facial expressions, what Toad says, "Help! Save me!" I probably laughed the hardest when Toad sees the buffers and as soon as he says, "Those'll stop me!" the train goes the other direction and then he says, "Oh no! (which sounds like "Moh no!") I'm back on the main line!!!" XD

@@gnc623 I don’t disagree that busy going backwards had a lot of hilarity, but lady hatt’s birthday party involved sir topham getting into a pickle every step of the way, ending up looking like a messy-looking drunkard. This was probably first time we actually see sir topham Hatt bumbling. Plus lady hatt’s first line gets me in stitches with how Alec Baldwin voiced her, as well dialogue from George and Caroline.

I like that season 5 had all original episodes but they had a station master as a consultant so some of the episodes kept the railway series tradition of basing the stories based on real life events. I also think that most of those episodes could almost pass as railway series stories

Henry used to be such an interesting character in the earlier seasons, always thought it was stupid how they made him sick again after getting his new shape in the later seasons. Good choice for number 1, strongly enough for some reason the scariest part for me as a kid was seeing that mysterious guy come up to Henry on his pump truck thing, it was one of the first times we saw one of the character models move and it was literally haunting lol

@nicholetheotter1957

It was implied that Henry spent over a month locked in that tunnel. No wonder he eventually learned what a huge mistake he made. Then there was the fact he used to be prone to breaking down a lot. It definitely explains why he adapted a more timid and worrisome personality when Hit Entertainment took over.

I was real scared of the episodes from Spills and Chills. The Boulder was frightening to me as a kid. Haunted Henry made me too scared to sleep because of the atmosphere. I loved Baldwin as the narrator especially his voice of the Fat Controller, real intimidating. To me my absolute favorite was Horrid Lorry. The Lorries try to replace the engines but fail doing so miserably. Karma hitting them hard for their rudeness, also Baldwin's voice for the Lorries I loved.

My favorite episode is surprisingly Scaredy Engines. The music in that episode kinda sounds like the music that plays in Dunkin Gets Spooked but it sounds more intimidating and fits very well with the smelters yard. And that whistle that goes off when Thomas releases steam just gives me goosebumps. The overall atmosphere of the smelters yard in that episode just creeped me out, but I loved it because of that.

The Scene From Cranky Bugs where the Runaway Steamship crashes into the sheds was the scariest moment in a Thomas Episode for me. I remember covering my eyes as that seemingly massive and imposing vessel slowly moved toward the tv screen. At the same time the sound of the ship's horn had me hiding under blankets
