Love this hymn of Dan Schutte. I have used it a number of times when using the Glory & Praise Hymnal. Now using the Worship Fourth Edition Hymnal that song is not found in that Hymnal. Our parish is singing more traditional hymns and using more traditional hymn tunes. It has been building stronger sung participation in our parish.

We only have the 2nd Edition of the Glory & Praise so are a little bit out of date! :) I like to do a mixture of traditional hymns, chant, and newer hymns/religious songs!

Nice. How do you decide what to play on the organ vs piano? We use the organ on the traditional hymns (A lot the past three weekends and twice this weekend!) Do you play the Organ every weekend? Can you do some more Schutte on the Pipe Organ and All The Ends Of the Earth by Bob Dufford on on the Pipe Organ. God Bless You and your Music Ministry!! 😊

Thanks Joe! I will definitely be recording some more Dan Schutte hymns on the organ and I’ll add “All the Ends of the Earth” to the list (love that one). Right now I’m actually not playing organ at my church (except on special occasions or for weddings), but am leading music from the piano and directing a small choir! The organ is up in the loft and the piano is downstairs in the sanctuary, so basically I just pick one instrument and stick with it for consistency throughout the Mass (and not having to sprint from one end of the church to the other!). That said, I feel like traditional hymns and chant shine best with organ. When hymns are very pianistic (eg lots of arpeggiation in the LH, a need for a sustained super legato sound, busy arrangements) or have faster/driving tempos, I prefer piano. But will still play them on organ if need be and simplify or chord if that makes it more organ-y! Hopefully that makes sense. I’ll be posting a few hymns in the next while that I typically think of as piano songs, but I want to try them on organ!

Hi Kim! Thank you for sharing your talent! You have a very good voice and you play the pipe organ very well. May I pls ask for a soft copy of the music score of the song and the keyboard accompaniment? Thank you! God bless.

Hi, Kim, thanks for sharing your gift of organ playing and singing. We are preparing a Thanksgiving prayer for Nov. 21 via zoom and we would like to use your KZitem as part of our prayer. Would you please give us permission to use it and if so who would you like to acknowledge you? Thank you for getting back to me. Bette Gambonini

Hi Bette, thanks for reaching out! Because my youtube videos are mainly covers of other people's music, I think you would have to acknowledge the songwriter's credits (the publication/copyright/songwriter info is usually in the description of my video) rather than me. e.g. for Table of Plenty, you would credit Dan Schutte. Was it just this Table of Plenty video you were thinking of using or other ones? You can email me at: kimtheorganist at gmail.com !
